I wonder if he was trying to pair his phone to the bluetooth mike data, which would give usable info up to roughly 100 feet. But, wouldn’t the mike have to also be in pairing mode for this to be of any use?
They should have detained him to see what he was up to with that phone
scanner software added to his cell phone?
It is a very odd maneuver, a provocation at the very least.
An inch or two from the people he each does it to.
It’s like the kid in the back seat who won’t stay on “his side” inching up to “the line” (especially when rounding turns).
Theres a cell phone video of a young man engaging Gugino minutes before his fall.
Kudos to this man - he sniffed out that Gugino was there to make trouble. They should make him a lead anchor on the local evening news

While I’d heard about the fall I had never watched it before and was unaware of his camera ploy.
It doesn’t appear that he’s trying to video names/ID numbers on their uniforms.
Bluetooth or other data capture could have been what he is after. Don’t know.
Bill Ayers is 75, there are a lot of people in that age group who’ve done bad things and who have continued to espouse them (9-11-2001 Mr. Ayers said he couldn’t say that he wouldn’t ever bomb anyplace again).
Heres another thought, the way in which he held his phone and projected it toward the officers was how you would hold a taser at someone. Maybe that was the impression he was trying to give to antagonize them into action.
