Historical experience shows the while people should live by the Ten Commandments, many do not.
Now we hear about “abolishing police” and “defunding police”.
This would comport with John Locke’s philosophy he called “the state of nature”; the way things were before civilized society.
It seems that many are now leaning toward this “state” not orderly co-existence, but to civil disorder and war. There is no earthly authority, but for the “moral code” to protect people against being attacked and plundered.
Obvious wrongs cannot be left to being put right by judgement of individuals with recourse to arms or force, this obviously leads to a “disorderly society” with everyone being their own supreme authority.
The right to dissent is sacred, but the dissent is not.
We need law and order.
This would necessitate a high standard of law enforcement.
This would necessitate a judicial system of impartial judges.
Therefore we must have a government that empowers courts (empowered by law) to resolve differences…and duly sworn police forces to execute the laws.

Yeah, Abolish the police force...the first city to do that will witness mass flight from that municipality. Property values and tax revenue will crater. It will be a “Venezuelan” Utopia.

If the police are disbanded, the void will be filled...those who plan the anarchy of the rioters and other movements are chomping at the bit...Joe Public will have his collective hands full getting rid of the bane that replaced the itch.

Good question. They can perform a “citizen arrest”, then detain them for a police authority higher than the level without police. Typically, the Sheriff’s office.
This happens quite a bit these days, mostly with bankrupt small towns that can no longer afford a police department, or whose entire department has been arrested for corruption.
In this case, the local Sheriff would set up one or more substations/jails in that city anyway, and the company would also have “reserve deputies” manning them so they could quickly perform arrests and detentions and even transport to the County facilities.
On the plus side, “police brutality” laws and innumerable other restrictions would not apply to the private police, so if whiny whiny liberals complained, they could tell them to go fish. That is, if a car thief threw a punch at them, they could beat the pluperfect snot out of them, just like an ordinary citizen could.
