Leaving is spending less. As long as we have pre-positoned equipment there, our military can respond to events pretty quickly from the US. If we decide to keep troops in Europe, it seems to me that stationing them in some place like Poland or Hungary is more useful and cheaper than keeping them in Germany.

My BIL worked in the Pentagon -high up Army. Like the guy but he is liberal and Trump hater to the core. So is my sister. We never talk politics when getting together because nothing good will come from it.

Actually, about 90% of the troops in Germany during the Cold War were returned to the US by 2008 and all of the kasernes returned to the Germans. And thousands of Germans who worked on the kasernes lost their jobs.
