Two ex-Minneapolis police officers charged in George Floyd's death cast blame on more senior colleague

Attorneys for two former rookie Minneapolis police officers on Thursday rejected accusations that their clients aided and abetted the killing of George Floyd, casting blame instead on a senior officer who allegedly ignored his younger counterparts.

[snip]

“What is my client supposed to do but follow what the [senior] officer says?” Lane’s attorney, Earl Gray, argued in court. “The strength of this case, your honor, in my opinion is extremely weak.”

Defense attorneys said Kueng, 26, of Plymouth, was working his third shift ever as a full-time officer and Lane, 37, of St. Paul, was working his fourth day as a full-time officer on the day they encountered Floyd.

[snip]

“At all times Mr. Kueng and Mr. Lane turned their attention to that 19-year veteran …” Plunkett said. “[Kueng] was trying — they were trying to communicate that this situation needs to change direction.”

Charging documents show that Lane asked twice if they should roll Floyd onto his side and was rebuffed by Chauvin. Kueng took Floyd’s pulse and told his colleagues, “I couldn’t find one,” according to the criminal complaint.

And Lane is the cop who said he was concerned about delirium, as Floyd was on the ground.

I’m thinking Chauvin’s the 1 more likely to get Epstein’ed— before he makes it to trial.

Yeah.
Sad our justice system can be so perverted by a professional violent criminal, even while on dope.
Couldn’t be done without the media.

Couldn’t be done without the media.

This is where you are mistaken. The videos. All of the videos. They exposed at least one bad cop willfully killing a man in the street, defiantly ignoring the dying man's pleas. No media narratives change the videos. No media interpretations necessary.

What’s a “former rookie?”

Nope.
A cop in a dangerous situation, with doubtful help.

Be interesting to see what the jury make of this.

Not interesting to see what ignorant fools make of it.

Something is off in this. I stumbled upon this video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUZlMvwG19k

The Floyd commentary starts at 9:45. It would certainly explain the weirdness of the videos and pictures.

Then again after the whole Trayvon Train... I’d be suspicious of anything Benjamin Crump is involved in.

The fourth cop, playing pocket pool and menacing the onlookers, was not a rookie. He did have a record of excessive force complaints.

Your fantasy dangerous situation is why knee-on-neck spent nine minutes posing with his hands resting on his hips. Wait--he stopped posing momentarily when he whipped out his can of mace to threaten an onlooker--perhaps it was the EMT who saw the dying man was in medical extremis. Tough cop wants to mace an EMT onlooker. No media narrative necessary for that video.

Terminated before graduating from probationary rookie status.

The story isn’t exactly clear, but it appears that they had just started field training that week.

The DA is going to try to get them to make a deal to testify against the Chauvin in exchange for reduced charges. There is no way any of these guys will get a fair trial.

Well, you certainly know what the media has allowed you to know.

Juries get the input from the defense too.
The rookie backups will be part of that.
They’ll put themselves in the charged’s position.

We may not be concerned that George Floyd was a doped up career violent criminal.
They should though.

As I said their view will be interesting.
I expect many will be caught up in the narrative.
But maybe not.
Only a fool would decide upon the publicly available facts a this point.

Love juries and all of Common Law.
It’s so knowledgeable, like Herodotus wan’t useless.

Considering that the media narrative is national, don’t see what difference that will make.

If the jury does it’s job all will work out as best it can.

Your media narrative obsession—is it gin or whiskey soaked? Either way, it surely is repetitive, and smells like a bar room floor.

I watched it a few months ago. Apparently, there is quite a bit of reality in the movie, even with “artistic license. Here is a story about some of the events related to the corrupt Rampart Division. It’s an excellent movie.
