Yep. He is not out of the woods yet. In the political climate there, look for him to be charged.

Protestors were running in front of his truck. Kind of like the squirrels in my neighborhood.

"“He’s a great guy. That’s it,” said Lonnie McQuirten, owner of 36 LYN Refuel Station – a BP gas station on Lyndale Avenue in South Minneapolis. McQuirten says Vechirko has just made a badly needed fuel delivery to his black-owned station – one of only a few stations still open." https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/george-floyd/kare-11-investigates-semi-driver-didnt-target-protesters/89-0cf459f3-af33-45a0-a8f3-76fb2754bc25

Cops don’t want to wade into a cesspool of dangerous protestors that are potentially all infected with covid and get protestor spit on them.

Easier to arrest the one person who probably keeps to himself and is a danger to no one.

the guy in charleston was found guilty by public opinion.

It din't help him that, before he left for Charleston, he posted on social media that he was going there to kill protesters. Kind of tends to show intent and premeditation.

It’s legal to block the interstate now?

That’s an important point. If they had a permit to parade, the liability to close the on ramps would be on them. If no permit, they shouldn’t have been there, in the first place.

Kind of like the squirrels in my neighborhood.

I know what you mean. I almost ran over one this past weekend. I chased it over two lawns and driveways and a big flower bed before it successfully ran up a tree...........

The current Star Tribune story on the incident dated this morning adds that the driver “remained jailed on suspicion of assault but had not been charged.” Those who assaulted the driver remain at large. They aren’t even being sought.

At his press conference yesterday, Governor Walz declared the driver “stupid” for speeding and glorified the crowd that pummeled him for protecting him. One of the protesters can be heard on audio of the incident calling off the crowd that was pummeling the driver. Walz weaves fairy tales for dummies. It’s his modus operandi.

One has to make it to the end of the local CBS affiliate’s story on this incident to find a powerful testimonial to the driver from the (black) customer he had just served:

WCCO has learned the driver was returning from making a run from the Lyn 36 refuel station on Lyndale.

“That gentleman was the only gentleman in his whole company who wanted to deliver gas to a black-owned station that he delivers to 14 times a week, so if he was so-called racist like they said it was, I don’t think he’d be delivering to us,” Lonnie McQuirter said. “He was feeding his family, that’s what he was part of. Just like what we’re doing, trying to feed our family.”

I have posted the video of WCCO’s report below. Let’s hear it for tanker truck driver Bogdan Vechirko. Governor Walz owes Vechirko an apology, but that’s not Walz’s style. Hit and run is more like it.

There are three choices here and I’d choose the one that involves the noisemaker on my hip.

This sort of thing comes up all the time in 3rd and 4th world countries. I know from 2nd hand experience that the cab and bus drivers will not stop if they encounter a gang wielding machetes. They will try to avoid hitting them but keep moving at a moderate rate of speed, keep going and NEVER stop.

no it didn’t but if he intended to drive through the crowd, he had plenty of opportunity... his lawyer really sucked.

the video showed him driving to avoid until he was attacked and panic took over.

I talked to my aunt in MPLS a few hours after this happened. There were 5,000 plus people milling around on I-35W because the mob-coddling geniuses in charge up there decided to designate it as a theme park or walkway for yet another “peaceful demonstration.” MINNDOT apparently didn’t get their barricades up before this driver lawfully got onto this designated truck route and rounded a curve to find the Zombie Apocalypse happening right in front of him.

This driver was caught in a web of (yet more) official incompetence, and the officials’ first instinct was to throw him in jail. That’s just friggin precious.

The guy brought it to a stop without hitting any of those people. There’s no such thing as an empty gasoline tanker, because of post-delivery fuel residue in the piping and concentration of fumes in the tanker compartments. A loaded bulk liquid tanker will fight panic stops with liquid surge. An empty one is a jack knife hazard. If you watch the clip, you can see the trailer getting squirmy. A greenhorn could have incinerated all of those people or at least maimed a bunch of them. He’s a hell of a good driver, and his skill saved the lives of people he didn’t put in harm’s way. Too bad he almost got murdered over it. One of those SOBs climbed up on the hood, kicked out the windshield, and started kicking him in the face while he was still behind the wheel. Remind me, which one spent 48 hours in jail and still has the possibility of criminal charges hanging over him?!

According to the Forebears web site, Vechirko is about 75 percent Ukrainian and 25 percent Russian. Not terribly common in either nation, roughly 1,000 people.

As a lifelong student of onomastics, I would note that the suffix -ko is typically Ukrainian.

Of course, you will find plenty of Ukrainian surnames in Russia and vice versa.
