After a 38-year career with the Justice Department, the FBI's top lawyer Dana Boente was asked to resign on Friday. Two sources familiar with the decision to dismiss Boente said it came from high levels of the Justice Department rather than directly from FBI Director Christopher Wray.
His departure comes on the heels of recent criticism by Fox News for his role in the investigation of former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
A spokesman for the FBI confirmed to NBC News that Boente did in fact resign on Friday...

Like the old joke goes, "A good start."
Not too surprising that the fey Wray had nothing to do with it.
This clown is 66 years old, kind of makes you wonder why he hadn’t retire years ago. No doubt with 38 years on the job his pension was fully vested. I suggest he stayed on to run Deep State interference / keep Obama’s scumbags out of jail.
Leftist propaganda.
They treat as fact the claim that Flynn had lied even though the initial interviewers felt he did not and even though he only agreed to a plea deal after the FIB had bankrupted him and forced him to sell the family home - and then threatened to maliciously prosecute his son.
Tried to block releasing Brady material in the Flynn case, not to mention signing off on at least one fraudulent FISA warrant. Might be a fall guy for Wray.
I understand Sessions was just about to arrest him.
nice, more please
Ok, but Fox News has—for the most part—done an EXCELLENT job in reporting on and even exposing the dirty dealings of the Deep State. One of their best investigators is Jarrett.
Meaning FNC stood alone because the MSM refused to cover stories harmful to Democrats.
Boente didn't resign because FNC criticized him, he resigned because the news of his involvement became known, no thanks to the MSM.

Releasing the transcripts of 50 interviews under oath showing that everyone involved lied to the media but spoke the opposite under oath made no difference to the Dem wing of the media. They either ignored the transcripts or lied about what is in them.
The left never admits it is wrong.
Yeesh JonPreston, Trust the plan. Like a pandemic and riots are the way to defeat the uniparty deep staters - how could that not be more obvious? Sessions in just under deep cover - real deep in it. CIA Secreat agent Dennis Rodman was telling me all about it. He really is a bad secret agent, its just nobody ever believes him so its perfect. And no Kim isn’t returning his calls.
Hannity and Laura have good guests who get to the bottom of it.
But none of the other Fox shows barely mention it.
This whole coup thing is one of the biggest stories in the history of American politics yet nobody wants to touch it.
Dana is part of the scum, IMHO.
All of the FBI and DOJ officials who signed off on the Carter Page FISA warrants are now ALL either fired or resigned:
FBI: Comey, McCabe, Rosenstein
DOJ: Baker, Yates and now Boente.
FISA court magistrates who signed the FISA warrants: Judge Rosemary Collyer, Judge Michael Mosman, Judge Anne Conway and Judge Raynond Dearie.
Who knows the status of these judges who were defrauded by FBI and DOJ personnel?
Judge Emmett Sullivan. Are you listening?
Forget the “criticism”, it is because of WHAT HE DID!
so who signed the app in the wh? Do all FISA warrant apps have to go through the WH? Hard to imagine an application to wire tap a phone of presidential candidate was not known to the president.
Now that Dana’s financial situation is secure, it is time to drain him dry....dry as a popcorn fart.
“Boente is the only active government official who signed off on one of the FISA warrants targeting onetime Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.” - Washington Examiner, May 30 2020
Exactly. Why is Chris Wray still there even? I got a bad vibe from him from the day Trump named him.
“This whole coup thing is one of the biggest stories in the history of American politics yet nobody wants to touch it.”
I think it is the very biggest scandal in our history, at least in my memory and I’m an old guy.
That said it’s to early for this to break big time and I’m thinking (and hoping)the Trump folks play this and whatever other shoes there are to drop patiently and methodically to get maximum benefit through the election process.
