The pandemic has slowed much American police work, but police are still working. “As of May 17, 375 people had been shot and killed by on-duty police officers in 2020—about the same rate as other recent years despite the coronavirus pandemic,” Wesley Lowery, who helped track killings at The Washington Post, observed on Tuesday. Just a day before, a 46-year-old black man named George Floyd was killed by a white Minneapolis police officer who pinned him to the ground, kneeling on his neck for five minutes. Floyd’s last words were captured in a video on Facebook: “Don’t kill me” and “I cannot breathe.” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey swiftly fired the four officers involved and has called for criminal charges.

Even if Chicago isn’t representative, a police force is not something you just adjust in size like an accordion door. It takes time to build a force, especially a quality one, and cutting size should not be done lightly, and certainly not just because Progressives are arguing for it. They’ve been wrong about just about everything for 100+ years. These are, after all, the heirs of the people pushing Eugenics in the 1920s and 1930s for but one example.
Dunno about the police...but definitely time to defund all the communist/RAT organizations. Probably the police too after seeing how they actually treated the People and vowed solid allegiance to the communists during the Plandemic lockdowns.
The correct number is closer to around 1k killed by police each year. And of course that number is meaningless unless you know how many of those were shooting at the police at the time.

I am a very, very strong supporter of cutting police forces in half. Yes, laying off 1/2 of all cops nationwide.
They have become privileged overlords rather than servants of the civil society.
And don’t fall for the “burning chaos” arguments that’ll try to fill the discussion with. It’s bullshit and they’d just as soon shove that “Blue Lives Matter” flag up your ass if they thought their retirement check would be docked $10.

Hell of a lot more people than just Progressives want the cops to come to heel. I want to know why so many have military surplus equipment and why there is even a need for SWAT?
Great f-ing idea and we will have purges,theft and riots and killing just to kill. Police are not perfect but no police is truly anarchy even in states where gun rights are better. My cynical side of me thinks the left gives zero fvcks about Corona or Floyd but ride the wave of crisis.
I agree, there needs to be strict punishment of officers involved in George Lloyd like killings, but cutting the size of police forces willy-nilly is stupidity writ large.
I’m schocked to find out criminals didn’t follow the lockdown regulations.
