Zuckerberg: 'Facebook shouldn't be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online'
The Hill ^ | 05 27 2020 | Rebecca Klar

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday doubled down on his defense of the platform not labeling misinformation shared by politicians after Twitter placed warnings on two posts from President Trump it deemed “misleading.”

Asked by Fox News’ Dana Perino if he thought Twitter “made the wrong decision,” Zuckerberg said his platform has “a different policy than Twitter on this.”

“I just believe strongly that Facebook shouldn’t be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online,” Zuckerberg said in the interview on Fox's "The Daily Briefing." “I think in general private companies probably shouldn't be — especially these platform companies — shouldn’t be in the position of doing that.”

The rest of Zuckerberg's interview is scheduled to air Thursday.

Twitter placed warnings on two of Trump’s tweets for the first time Tuesday. The warnings were placed on posts the president made making unsubstantiated claims that California’s mail-in voting was full of fraud.

A spokesperson for Twitter told The Hill the president’s tweets “contain potentially misleading information about voting processes and have been labeled to provide additional context around mail-in ballots.”

He looked like he was 12 years old and pissing in his pants when she asked him what was he going to do.

Zuck needs to be on the legal hook for libel and slander [and “fact checking”].

I saw Gov Huckabee on Outnumbered today and he said that social media should be like the phone company. Phone co puts up the lines and people choose what to say through the lines. Twitter and Facebook make the platform. That’s it. They should NOT be allowed to control the content.

“I just believe strongly that Facebook shouldn’t be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online..."

Sounds Clintoneeze. Technically correct: not the arbiter of truth for everything people say; but inded the arbiter of truth for everything that some people (i.e. conservatives) say.

Sounds to me like Twitter is being hung out to dry; or perhaps it's a case of Rats abandoning the sinking ship. In any case, Zuckerberg knows better than to let himself fall into the trap of having FB appear like a publisher rather than a neutral platform.
Twitter is about to have the snot beat out of them because they obviously chose sides politically and forgot the POTUS carries a very heavy hammer.

Then Facebook will have to back off on “fact checking” if they want to be seen as a neutral platform.

.... Over the past decade or so .... I have really grown sick and tired of hearing the constant drone of Conservatives complaining about these liberally slanted so called “Fact Checking” sites out there.p

.... Question: Instead of relying on Talk Show hosts to bring the “Truth” to light .... Why doesn’t the conservative movement get together and form a solid factually based ... “Go To” .... site to counter all of the prevaricating sites???

It was Twitter caught in the latest fact checking fiasco, not Facebook.

Zuck needs to be on the legal hook for libel and slander [and “fact checking”].

Zuckberg has said many times he doesn't believe FB should censor or fact check.

Since FB allowed Russia to buy FB ads during the election, Democrats have been demanding Zuckerberg censor, ban, fact check, and delete accounts.

Zuckerberg has actually been telling Democrats to stuff it (in a nice way).

Twitter may drag down Facebook if Zuckerberg is not being careful.

Of course; that’s why Zuckerberg is refusing to be stoopid about it. He’s been resisting leftist pressure and it’s clearly paying off.
Twitter, OTOH is in for a world of hurt.

What is needed is a protocol in which these companies run ON, and not run themselves. Like USENET or FTP and WWW.

All Twitter does is offer better “features” when you access it via their service, and that’s it.

All messages are visible to anyone as default.
