NYPD second-in-command rips Central Park ‘Karen’ over ‘disturbing’ incident

The now-viral video of a white woman who called the cops on a black man in Central Park is “disturbing” — but “we’ve got bigger fish to fry” than pursuing charges against her, NYPD First Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Tucker said Tuesday morning. The video shows the woman, identified in reports as Amy Cooper, on the phone telling police: “There is an African American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog.” The man had asked the woman to leash her dog. In an interview with PIX11, Tucker called it “an unfortunate incident, and frankly, it’s hard to understand what she did.” “The fact she invoked race is disturbing,” Tucker said. “But also, listen, she’s got a dog. The signs say dogs must be leashed. She wasn’t in compliance, so in effect, she was the problem, not the gentleman who asked her to put the dog on the leash. It was a simple thing.” But the NYPD isn’t looking to bring charges against Cooper, he said. “We’re not going to pursue that,” Tucker said. “We’ve got bigger fish to fry, I think, and the DA would never prosecute that. It’s not even clear that it would be actionable in terms of any violation.” The man who could be heard in the video, Christian Cooper, said he asked Amy to put the dog on a leash, and when she didn’t, he offered the pooch a treat. “The only way they can keep the dog from eating the treat is to put it on a leash,” he told NBC Monday. “At some point, she decided, ‘I’m gonna play the race card,’ I guess.” Enlarge Image Benjamin TuckerNYPD First Deputy Commissioner Benjamin TuckerPaul Martinka Amy told the network she felt threatened,

Her employer thought so. “Right to work” includes the right to fire racists -who threaten people with the police wrongfully, thereby committing a crime- at will. I wouldn’t want anyone who is a liar, a racist and a lawbreaker to have a damned thing to do with my portfolio.

To be fair, look at it the other way - if NYPD had shown up in a timely fashion, the black guy could have been shot by a trigger-happy cop. She deliberately used manipulative terms to cue up tension on the 911 call. Did the guy deserve to be shot?

She was stupid, arrogant and manipulative. And she was all of these ON VIDEO. Serious questions about her judgement capability at that point, especially on the part of an employer. Anyone stupid enough to do this crap, knowingly, on camera? Probably doesn’t need to be a manager in charge of millions of dollars of other people’s money.

Should also point out that she is (or was) in a special field where literally any poor conduct can get you fired - she worked at Franklin Templeton as a high-level funds manager. At that level, getting recorded (not arrested, just recorded) being drunk is enough to get you fired.

Anything to distract NYers from the mass-killing of 7,000 New York senior citizens by their governor. Governor Cuomo carried out this atrocity thru issuing his Executive order to place Covid-positive patients into NY nursing homes rather than the near empty Javitts center, USNS Comfort and thousands of available hospital beds.

This is what Leftist governments do. They seize wealth and power and kill innocent people.

From a purely legal standpoint, when the guy said “I’m going to do what I’m going to do, and you may not like it” that may have been enough to put a reasonable person in fear enough to call the police. Other than that, I have little sympathy for her. I’m just not sure her life needed to be ruined.

Oh brother - so basically two smug busy-body idiots instead of one. What kind of douche carries treats to offer to other peoples dogs because they don't have them leashed? And she calls the police on him.

Has anyone asked why the man was telling the woman to leash the dog?

Because he was a bird watcher and the dog was keeping the birds away.

She overreacted but he was being annoying busybody.

She did it to herself - she knew (because FT would have specifically told her) that bad public behavior of any kind is grounds for termination at her level. She chose to act as if the rules didn’t apply to her, in classic Karen style, and she received the consequences she chose to ignore.

I don’t think he was being a douche (and no, I don’t do this, I live on a railroad, and enjoy all sort of wildlife, and it all taunts my dog :)).

It is a great tactic, and it was good he was recording as well. Why should a person respecting the rules always be at the disadvantage of the violator, if there are simple solutions that don’t impact anyone else’s rights?

Now if she allowed the dog to take the treat, and the dog died, and it turned out the treat was poisoned, then yeah, criminal douche in that case.

But that was nothing like what happened.

She’s a manipulative, race card using, self-absorbed New York City leftist. A real nasty piece of work.

He’s also a manipulative, race card using, self-absorbed New York City leftist.

Let them sort out their own troubles.

Good! You get what happened. The life of a not very mentally stable white woman was ruined by this passive aggressive black racist. This society has gone upside down in my years on earth. Now Mr. Black Racist...go off and celebrate with you fellow racists on your lame brain twitter.

...Do you believe she should have lost her job because of this?

The way the lies so easily rolled off her tongue convinces me that losing her job is appropriate.

She worked at a financial advisor -- watching that video and then having her give me any advice would always lead to the question: "Is this best for me or best for her?" Not to mention that any black clients should immediately start to move their accounts to different advisors.

Now if she is any good at what she does she will need to take a pay cut and start over at some different company.

The bottom line is that not every uncomfortable interaction between two people needs to go on social media in order to ruin someone's life. Her life is literally ruined. I think this went a tad far.

I'd agree if she hadn't called the police and tried to give them the impression that he was about to assault her. She definitely tried to get him arrested for daring to confront her.

No problem. One last thing - Karens are becoming universally hated except by other Karens. And I’m fine with that.

Don’t be a Karen.

Has anyone asked why the man was telling the woman to leash the dog? Was the dog unruly? Barking? Running wild? Or was he being a Black Chad? Frankly, it’s not my business to butt in unless the behavior in question is harming or has the potential to harm those around the person.

This area of Central Park is designated as an urban wild life preserve and is very popular with bird watchers. Persons with dogs are allowed in this section of the park called The Rambles, but the dogs must be leashed at all times and are to remain on the walking paths at all times. There are numerous signs posted everywhere that very specifically point out these rules.

She was in violation of these rules and allegedly was allowing her dog to not only run free and unleashed and off the designated walking paths, but also allowing her dog to go into the underbrush which is definitely not allowed as unleashed and unruly dogs and their unruly owners can not only disturb the wildlife including ground nesting birds and other wildlife, but can also kill them.

The man was well within his rights to point out to her that she was violating the rules of the park and also point out to her that on the other side of the path, not all that far away, there was an area of the park that allowed unleashed dogs.

After trying to reason with her, she ignored him and claimed that this was the only place she could let her dog off leash, which was a lie.

This man, an avid and regular bird watcher has encountered dog people like her before and carries dog treats with him, not harm the dogs but to entice them to come to him so he can show their owners that their dogs were not under their control and needed to be leashed.

When this woman got upset that she was challenged for violating the well posted rules, the first thing she did was run up to him and attempt to get in his face so she was obviously not intimated by him or for fear of her life by him, and then play the race card by telling him “I’m going to call the police and tell them that an African American man is threating me”. Why would she tell him specifically that she was going to call the police and tell them that an “African American man” is threatening her if not to imply that a white woman being harassed by a black man might get a beat down the responding cops.
