Barr’s Remarks on Obama and Biden Make an Important Point
National Review ^ | 5/18/2020 | ANDREW C. MCCARTHY

Posted on 05/18/2020 6:59:39 PM PDT by bitt

Attorney General Barr is right in his commitment to purge the Justice Department and the FBI of their recent political proclivities. Attorney General Barr’s remarks on Monday, signaling that the Justice Department anticipates no criminal charges against former President Obama and former Vice President Biden, should come as a surprise to no one (certainly, ahem, to no one who read Ball of Collusion).

As I noted here, less than a month ago, the AG observed during a wide-ranging interview with Hugh Hewitt that the subjects of the Durham investigation are not candidates for public office; thus, they were not affected by a Justice Department guideline against bringing charges close to Election Day. By then, Biden was already the putative Democratic presidential nominee. Obviously, if serious consideration were being given to an indictment of Biden, Barr would not have made the point about the guideline.

To be sure, the media reporting will portray Barr’s latest comments as indicative of a rift between the AG and President Trump, whose latest “Obamagate” rhetoric frames Obama-era investigative abuses as “crime.” Barr’s remarks will also be applauded as an “exoneration” of Obama officials — consistent with the media approach that portrays Democrats as innocent victims of right-wing smears if they manage to evade indictment, while a “guilty until proved innocent beyond any doubt” standard is applied to Republicans. Barr’s comments will feature in the “nothing to see here” storyline, the press’s counter to stunning revelations about the baselessness of the Russia collusion narrative willfully peddled by Democrats, and the exploitation of counterintelligence powers — powers that are supposed to protect us from jihadists and hostile regimes — for partisan political purposes.

The comments section over there is really cheering Barr.

Understandable. The truth is too ugly for many to face after 3 1/2 years of coupist assaults on President Trump and his supporters. So many of his voters are happy to be gaslit right up until election day.

Agreed. Testimony of the players when they are prosecuted will implicate the Obama Biden pair. A courtroom is not a MSNBC disinformation show. Yet.

The top dogs will be implicated.

So, what’s the difference between Barr and Sessions?
Me thinks not, zip, zero. And do not forget nada.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Barr will end up being judged more harshly than Sessions. Barr is clearly carrying water for his GOPe benefactors at this point. Sessions motivations were more selfish in nature. Sessions just wanted to be AG at all costs. He had and he had a strong record of supporting the MAGA agenda in the Senate. Barr has none of that history and literally nothing to show from over 1 year as AG.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

Barr’s pathetic public exoneration of Obummer & Gropey today is comparable to Comey’s public acquittal of Crooked Hillary!!!

Still, I’m not surprised that nobody will be held accountable for the four year persecution of PDJT and so many innocent people in his orbit.

Lou Dobbs’s frustration with Ed Rollins’ attitude on this continual obfuscation was palpable on his show tonight.

Richard Nixon is likely turning over in his grave at the atrocities perpetrated during the Obama Administration and the Deep State at-large. The Watergate break-in pales in comparison to all of the heinous crimes committed in #Obamagate!!!

These are two important parts of what Barr said today, he made this the standard:

What happened to the president, and I have said this many times, in the 2016 election in the first two years of head is administration were unprecedented and abhorrent. The law enforcement and intelligence apparatus of this country were involved in advancing a false and utterly baseless Russian collusion narrative against the president. The proper investigative and prosecuted standards of the department of justice were abused, in my view, in order to reach a particular result.

We saw two different standards of justice emerge. One the applied to president trump and his associates and the other the applied to everybody else. We cannot allow this ever to happen again. The durham investigation is trying to get to the bottom of what happened and it will determine whether there were any federal laws broken and if there were, those who broke the laws will be held to account.

The Durham investigation is trying to get to the bottom of what happened and it will determine whether there were any federal laws broken and if there were, those who broke the laws will be held to account. This cannot be, and it will not be, a tit for tat exercise.

We are not going to lower the standards just to get a result. The only way to break away from a dual system of justice is to make sure we scrupulously apply a single and proper standards of justice for everybody. Under the long-standing standards of the department criminal charges are appropriate only when we have enough evidence to prove each element of a crime beyond a reasonable doubt.”

And regarding 0bola and Bite’m:

As to President 0bama and Vice President Biden, whatever the level of involvement based on the information I have TODAY, I do not expect Mr. Durham’s work will lead to a criminal investigation of either man.

Barr was reading his statement today. Very carefully crafted to make two points:

1. There WILL be one standard of justice. If crimes were committed, those who committed them will face justice.

2. He doesn’t have AT THIS MOMENT evidence to go after 0bola and Bite’m. Maybe others do - (they do) - and maybe Barr will have it tomorrow or next week.

So it is all good.

If people listen to Barr’s actual statement, they will see that everything is well.

Other than Debbie Downers.

It’s artificial.

So that the Demsheviks can’t say that Barr is Trump’s lapdog doing his bidding. Sun Tzu and all that. Showing that Barr isn’t Trump’s “wingman” like Holder was for 0bola. Using the DoJ as a weapon against political opponents.

Don’t worry. The DoJ is going after the criminals. They dont do a play by play because they’re dead serious about serving justice.

The longer Barr blovatiates on the law the clearer it becomes this is a political battle now and not a legal one.

Sorry, but I have to disagree.

The overall activities of multiple participants, by definition, is conspiracy to commit sedition.

Individually, there were participants who falsified documents, lied to investigators, Congress and the Senate. When they swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, there are criminal penalties when they don’t. Withholding information is also considered lying. Many of them affirmed, swore and signed document under penalty of perjury - with, apparently, no penalty of perjury.

Lastly, to predetermine certain persons (ie: Obama and Biden) are exempted from prosecution before being investigated, is, in and of itself, political. Just like determining Clinton had no intent to commit the crimes she committed, so need to prosecute.

Yeah, we definitely have two different justice systems.

...the subjects of the Durham investigation are not candidates for public office; thus, they were not affected by a Justice Department guideline against bringing charges close to Election Day.

What happens if the DNC dumps Biden at the convention, or if Biden drops out after the convention?

At that point, he'd no longer be a "candidate for public office... close to election day."

Barr:

This cannot be and it will not be a tit-for-tat exercise. We are not going to lower the standards just to achieve a result. The only way to stop this vicious cycle, the only way to break away from a dual system of justice, is to make sure that we scrupulously apply the single and proper standard of justice for everybody.

In other words, the Democrat Free Kick, as I've been saying:

The trap for Republicans is that Democrats know they can be abusive first and get away with it, because Republicans will reject "whataboutism," and insist on taking the high road in contrast, essentially giving the Democrats a free "kick me" every time.

Nothing will change unless liberals feel the blowback.

It seems that Barr is now a player.

So true of so many Republicans, particularly GWB, who insist on “taking the high road in contrast, essentially giving the Democrats a free “kick me.”

The “moderate” Republicans are killing us.

Are you sure? Your statement reminds me of the “TRUST SESSIONS” crap that many on here were spouting and then they quietly distanced themselves from Sessions stories never actually admitting they were duped by the Keebler Elf.
