... We estimate that the benefits of each additional cloth mask worn by the public are conservatively in the $3,000-$6,000 range due to their impact in slowing the spread of the virus. ...

...

However, there is broad agreement about two crucial points:

“Masks, including cloth masks and surgical masks, have measurable efficacy at preventing infected people from transmitting viruses to others.

Does the article show the “science” on this? I don’t want to read the whole darn thing. “Measurable effect”, yeah, what’s the amount? Teeny Tiny I bet...

Eff that. Estimations on top of grotesquely wrong information on top of liberal politics makes the end result that only a Fearper can love.

You love this, DannyTN, only to the extent that it’s the compromise position to your ideal of banning all people from ever coming out of their homes, including medical and governmental employees.

Your position disgusts me.

I dont mind wearing a mask.

And dark sunglasses with a ball cap pulled down low.

I point my “face” right at security cameras.

The can probably tell I am laughing but that is about it.

Its going to be even more fun when the progs freak next fall and claim there are “re-emerging outbreaks” in an attempt to demand fraud-by-mail.

Mask - shades - ball-cap - jacket - gloves.

Last winter I would have gotten busted by security for going in a store dressed like that.

Plus all those “for your safety” facial recognition proponent jerks must be screaming at the walls these days.

Good.

Do you have a study with hard data on the number of people infected by asymptomatic carriers?

All I’ve seen in the studies I’ve read so far are models, inferences, and estimates, with ridiculously high error bars, but no hard data.

I’m surprised some lefty hasn’t praised Islam for its permanent masking of women, which promotes a healthy lifestyle and a safe environment.

Don't ascribe positions to me that I've never taken.

The mathematician in me cringes every time I see this sort of nonsense. There is no imaginable basis for these numbers that could possibly be anywhere near accurate. It's a lie hiding behind "statistics". As an honest statistician, that disgusts me.

No, and I don’t know how you would possibly conduct such a study to get hard data. They are asymptomatic after all.

You can go back and look at the German study on the initial spreader in Germany and the amount of time she was asymptomatic and the number of people who she infected.

Unless you believe that there are a lot of people going out into public with symptoms, then you kind of have to assume that most people get it from asymptomatic people.

I thought about nursing homes in response to your question. But even considering they send a symptomatic person back into the nursing home. Unless you assume that person wasn’t sufficiently isolated, then medical workers are getting it from the symptomatic person and transmitting it to the other patients while the medical worker is still asymptomatic.

Same thing in hospitals. Yes there were a couple of early cases where doctors worked for days while experiencing symptoms, but that’s the exception. Most get it and spread it while asymptomatic.

Hospitals in Boston requred all workers and patients to wear masks and saw a greater than 50% drop in new cases a day.

Total crap article. Could be effective? That means it could not be effective too. Measurably effective? What about the known positive people who now go out in public because they have a cloth mask, which they are wearing improperly? Asians wear masks? What about the Asian populations who live elsewhere, don’t wear masks and are still unaffected?

there is a better way- antibodies= which are providing a 100% ‘cure’ and 100% protectiveness- it binds the virus and ushers it out of the body before it can be replicated and spread quickly-

There was an article on Fr the other day about it- everyone could be back to work and not have to worry about even getting it- provided there were enough antibodies to go around-

Wearing masks while shopping in stores is a small price to pay for opening the economy.
