Second Video in Ahmaud Arbery Released
Twitter ^ | May 9, 2020 | None

Posted on 05/09/2020 4:59:46 PM PDT by bort

This video was posted on the twitter account of Ahmaud Arbery's attorney, Lee Merritt. It shows Arbery stopping in front of the home. He then looks around and walks into the home, which is under construction. He walks out of the home and into the garage. He is in the house for at least 60 to 90 seconds. He then BOLTS out the front entrance of the house like Jesse Owens.

I haven’t been following this, but why would the family’s attorney post a video of his client trespassing? Maybe the point is that it’s someone else?

Does anybody know this area (Satillo Shores)?
I read it’s very isolated; it’s not actually within the town of Brunswick.
I don’t know whether he walked the whole way or left his car somewhere, but I was left with the impression he wouldn’t have been just “strolling” through the neighborhood.

It seemed to me that in the first video, Arbery can be seen struggling with one of McMichaels men, attempting to gain control of McMichael’s gun.

If that’s the case, it would appear the use of force was legitimate: he wasn’t shot for being a burglar, he was shot because he was trying to gain control of someone’s weapon.

Seems like straightforward self-defense at that point.

First of all do the asinine Jesse Owen’s references.

Next he might not be innocent but don’t chase him down with guns and end up killing him.

Plenty of time to follow him and call the cops.

Even if he fought back and got shot, the shooters caused this situation.

You are making a strawman argument. Obviously, even the POLICE can’t shoot a burglar running from the scene. The LEGAL issue is, did the McMichaels have a right to pursue a fleeing burglary suspect? Answer: Yes. Next, did they have a right to impede him, detain him, ask him to stop, and even arrest him? Yes.

Ah, but did they have the right to shoot him? If he, in fact, tried to grab the shotgun, then yes, I think they would. But they will have to try to prove that in a likely hostile court. If, for instance his prints are on the shotgun or witnesses come forward, then their defense has a chance.

The dad was an ex-cop and worked as an investigator with the DA’s office for a long time. Perhaps he felt like it was his civic duty. I thought FREEPERS supported a well-regulated militia? We should defend these guys and not nit-pick with legal technicalites.

Same thing happened to my brother in law, he had a home that he bought in Northridge(For the purpose of renting it out) he was having it renovated and put multiple cameras around the house, someone broke in to steal the tools, on more than 1 occasion

The way he violently lunged for the shotgun, someone could have gotten hurt on the back of their head.

No you can’t go after a guy with a shotgun and then have to kill him in “self defense”. Don’t go after people with guns it’s ridiculous and it’s not safe gun handling.
In your house is one thing. Out on the street in pursuit is another.

“...these are not the actions of an innocent person out for a jog.”

Perhaps he’s checking out the possibilities in the daylight when he can get a good look and selecting the best bets for later when it’s dark.

Hiring that racebaiter Benjamin Crump (Trayvon Martin case) is a sure sign that this is another overplayed racial hoax

According to the DA who investigated the case and opted not to file charges, the autopsy showed that the first gun shot wound went “thru” the right palm, indicating that his hand was on the tip of the shotgun.

He pulled the shotgun causing the trigger to be pulled as well.

Note the video time stamp. The video is significantly sped up. If you were to slow it to real time, you would see that the "jogger" isn't jogging, but walking as he approaches. He then spends over 4 minutes in the house, per the time stamp.

If the McMichaels' are the ones at the top left of the screen just after Arbery flees, then it's possible they saw him exit the house. The DA stated in his memo that the McMichaels' pursued Arbery with "solid firsthand probable cause", meaning they saw the crime. He then goes on to cite GA law:

OCGA 17 -4 -60 A private person may arrest an offender if the offense is committed in his presence or within his immediate knowledge. If the offense is a felony and the offender is escaping or attempting to escape, a private person may arrest him upon reasonable and probable grounds of suspicion.

Per the DA, the pursuit and attempt to detain was "perfectly legal". This leaves the jury to determine if the scuffle over the shotgun that left Mr. Arbery dead constitutes murder.

Something tells me "jogger" is going to be a new euphemism for "fleeing felon".

St. Jogger pulled at the shotgun causing it to go off.

I’m just wondering what our society would be like if everyone thought it was a good idea to do armed ‘citizen arrest’ of whomever they suspected of a crime.

There was going to be trouble; and anyone with any intelligence could have foreseen that, whether the suspect were guilty or innocent.

Now the purported thief is dead - his troubles are over. The ‘vigilantes’ are in for a very rough ride.

It would have taken less time to call the cops than to get the posse around; and the outcome would have been much less tragic for all concerned.

This doesn’t strike me as ‘civic duty’ so much as hubris and stupidity.
