Researchers have discovered a strong correlation between vitamin D deficiency and mortality rates from the novel coronavirus, a new study reveals.
A research team led by Northwestern University analyzed data from hospitals and clinics across China, France, Germany, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Patients from countries with high COVID-19 mortality rates, such as Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, had lower levels of vitamin D compared to patients in countries that were not as severely affected, according to the study.

Correlation is not causation. "Sunlight availability" in Spain and Italy is higher than for the UK and especially Denmark, Finland and Norway, yet Italy and Spain have higher Covid than the UK, Denmark, etc. Without actual BLOOD MEASUREMENTS of Vitamin D3 levels and comparison with VIRAL LOAD the study is "less than valuable".

How ‘bout 14 years?

in early March I increased my take to 10,000 D3 units per day
I do not have the virus
Ditto my wife
Go engineers! (I are one)
Wait! They are quoting an ENGINEER??? What in the world? Even I can say "cytokine storm." Why aren't they quoting me?
You should get your proscription changed to a prescription.
There’s very little Vitamin D in food sources. The body makes most of the Vitamin D it needs via a reaction of sunlight on your skin. Depending on your latitude, cloud cover, darkness of your skin, and amount of clothing you are wearing, you just need to get outside for a few minutes every day. There are calculators on the web that tell you the time needed. In mid latitudes at sea level with shorts and t-shirt, I need about ten minutes a day.
The best thing is have your doc check your Vit D level in a blood panel workup.
Oops.
Spains southernmost latitude is level with our Mid Atlantic states. Not quite as southerly as many falsely believe
Makes me wonder what parts of Spain and Italy the lack of Vitamin D are...
Both countries have VERY SUNNY places, which in theory, should give inhabitants lots of Vitamin D.
“They are quoting an ENGINEER?”
Train conductors are smart people.
Yup. Me too. 5,000IU twice a day with 100mcg K2.
RE: I remember reading that post way back when. Its why I started taking Vitamin D.
How much Vitamin D supplements should one take?
Problem was northern Italy- more sun in southern Italy.
Led by Northwestern University, the research team conducted a statistical analysis of data from hospitals and clinics across China, France, Germany, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States.
Remember, statistics NEVER give you an answer. At best, you get another question.
We take 4,000 units of D3 daily plus added zinc lately.
Farm fresh eggs are a good source of vitamin D. Chickens absorb it for the sun and pass it along to their embryos
Next up, zinc fights COVID-19Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old farts life, it's worth it.
Patients from countries with high COVID-19 mortality rates, such as Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, had lower levels of vitamin D compared to patients in countries that were not as severely affected, according to the study.
If they had information correlating patients with low levels of vitamin D with higher mortality rates, that might be meaningful. But they're corollating mortality rates with patients from countries where low levels are common, and that's almost meaningless.
Get your levels tested...you should be 60-80...-I take @ 10,000iu daily..but you must take K2 also
IOW get out in the sunshine!
