Gavin Newsom announces California will enter Stage 2 of reopening Friday

California will move into Stage 2 of the state's reopening plan by the end of this week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced during a press conference Monday.

"On Friday I said we were days not weeks from announcing modifications to the stay-at-home order, and today we are announcing our efforts to update the stay-at-home guidelines and begin the process of moving to Stage 2," he said.

The new guidelines for Stage 2 — which allow for the return of retail, manufacturing, and other "low-risk" businesses — will be released Thursday, and businesses can start reopening Friday if new physical-distancing measures are implemented.

"As early as by end of this week, you will have the capacity as retailer to begin to reopen for pickup: clothing, bookstores, music shops, sporting goods, florists as Mother's Day approaches and other sectors within that retail sector," Newsom said.

It is currently unclear if the Bay Area will revise its order in light of the new state order.

"California will enter Stage 2"

Sounds like a cancer diagnosis. If that's the case, California has been in the terminal stage for decades.

Complete idiocy and total nonsense requiring a progressive return to unrestricted social freedoms/movement.

Why doesn’t government shut down car manufacturing until enough lives are saved! Shut down cigarette & alcohol manufacture, abortion clinics, outlaw the flu-season, rabidly enforce laws against murder and suicide, prohibit high risk activities/jobs and taking selfies on the edge of 300ft cliffs! Yeah, that’ll show the voters we care. Government must save lives!

We are not children. Life is full of risks/death caused by choices/movement in a free society. Risk/death from arbitrary contagion exposure, accidents, disease and God to name a few. Hiding from a virus and imposing draconian government controls on social freedoms/movement won’t make it go away or keep you from the chance it eventually might kill you. Time to get out from under the blanket, tell the government to FO, and return to normalcy. Swing the gates open 100% NOW!

Good question. I guess we are in Stage 1 right now. But I don’t see any changes.

It’s taking weeks to get items from Amazon that are considered non-essential. That includes books in my case. Here in NY, Upstate anyway, some of the B&Ns have curbside. Order online, if they have it in stock, them go pick it up. They leave it a table outside the door after you call from the parking lot. Silly, but far, far quicker.

3 counties in California has already opened up defying the governor.

Modoc, Yuba and Sutter.

Yuba and Sutter are bedroom communities and shopping area for Sacramento, which is next door.

Starting Monday, stores like nail salons, malls, and restaurants could all open their doors if they make room for proper social distancing.

I think only one county had 3 cases..glad that those three counties opened back up, no cases, no point in keeping things closed

I don’t know, it’s still pretty weird around here. Plus Costco is requiring masks starting today. (THHHPPT)

I’m thinking I’ll go without and use the “medical reasons” excuse, and when they ask what it is invoke HIPAA privacy regulations. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

No delays in Amazon deliveries here in Northern CA. Pretty much as fast as usual...unless it’s things depleted by the pandemic.

No seated dining at restaurants? I guess that lady in Northern California essentially told Gavin to shove it. She had dining in. It was crowded.
