Gavin Newsom announces California will enter Stage 2 of reopening Friday

California will move into Stage 2 of the state's reopening plan by the end of this week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced during a press conference Monday.

"On Friday I said we were days not weeks from announcing modifications to the stay-at-home order, and today we are announcing our efforts to update the stay-at-home guidelines and begin the process of moving to Stage 2," he said.

The new guidelines for Stage 2 — which allow for the return of retail, manufacturing, and other "low-risk" businesses — will be released Thursday, and businesses can start reopening Friday if new physical-distancing measures are implemented.

"As early as by end of this week, you will have the capacity as retailer to begin to reopen for pickup: clothing, bookstores, music shops, sporting goods, florists as Mother's Day approaches and other sectors within that retail sector," Newsom said.

It is currently unclear if the Bay Area will revise its order in light of the new state order.

Bookstores? He is opening businesses that no longer exist? That's big of him.

And you can go to clothing stores AS LONG AS they are NOT in a shopping mall? How many towns still have a clothing store on Main Street? Approximately ZERO!

Does "shopping malls" mean the cheesy little strip malls on the secondary roads? Or only the huge mega-malls with big department store anchor tenants?

How many retail stores in the country are NOT located in a shopping mall? Darned few.

What a nonsensical start. Isn't there anybody with common sense in Sacramento?

Last line of the article asks whether Country rules trump State rules. That isn’t clear at this point.

Sheesh, Cuomo is preparing still for Stage One. Apparently he still needs to do another 45 boring powerpoint press meeting before they qualify.

Cuomo’s not yet feeling the heat like Newsom is. Newsom fell behind and had to catch up in a hurry or lose total control. thank you all L A protesters and those in Orange County - you turned up the heat.

Stage 2 out of a thousand?
There was ZERO need for any lockdowns in California. They have one of the lowest deaths per million in the country. They could have stayed open like South Dakota, saved millions of jobs and businesses and saved lives at the same time.

Pointless.
Those companies who can afford it have already been doing this for a months.

This is just to keep CA voters placated while he continues to blame Trump.

Bah Humbug.

Who is Newsoe “protected” most, some business enterprises over other business enterprises.

He can reduce the pain by simply keeping mask mandates and open everything. if the masks are protecting everyone (if that is true) then continuing that is sufficient, without leaving any businesses closed.

Bookstores? HA!

Reminds me of the old Rodney Dangerfield line. “My doctor said I caught some rare tropical disease. He had no idea where it came from. Turns out I caught it from a magazine in his waiting room.”

"Curbside pickup" of retail items? Boob bait for the bubbas. Might as well order Amazon with free shipping. Saves the hassle and it's delivered to your front door.

They did! Super proud of the Californians that went to the beach this last week, protesting or otherwise.

Like during FraudCo’s government shutdown, the CSA governors are doing their best to make this as painful as possible to anyone likely to vote Republican.

Pretty funny that they’re suddenly rushing to “reopen” now that more and more people are simply starting to ignore the state government.

They’ve lost full control over the situation and are now scrambling to make the situation seem to be what they are promoting.

Their image suffers when the peasants don’t follow their every command.

I'm assuming that's a rhetorical question.

My brother is a Dem and even refers to Newsom as “Gruesome Newsom” he lives in Irvine..loves it there..and he is sick of Newsom..Ventura County is open..San Diego county which has more cases/deaths their beaches are open, but Newsom specifically targeted Orange County..everyday they have their daily briefing and one thing that they never say is how many people in LA county have RECOVERED from this virus
