CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Cambridge police have issued an apology following a profanity-laced and politically-charged tweet Sunday afternoon.
The tweet, was sent in response to a WCVB tweet of an OTR interview this morning with Representative Joseph Kennedy III.
The Cambridge Police tweet used profanity in referring to Kennedy and made an insulting remark that was apparently about Sen. Ed Markey, who Kennedy is challenging in this years Democratic primary.
Cambridge PD tweeted a statement after we contacted them.
It explained that a member of the department, who had access to the departments Twitter account, inadvertently posted the political commentary on the department account rather than their personal account.
Police called the comments inappropriate, unprofessional and disrespectful, and offered an apology to the Congressman and those individuals the statement was directed at.

What did the officer Tweet?
Now I really wanna know.
Of course, if it was expressing non-support of the latest Kennedy running for office, I probably would be in agreement.
Next time though, use your personal account, not the police dept. account! Faux Pas.
Cambridge PD has been involved in some weird zhit over the years....one of their officer was part of the infamous “beer summit” hosted by BHØ which became the genesis of “Black Lives Matter”.
More recently there was an incident where a girlyman pulled a knife on a jogger (some 30 feet away) because the jogger wasn’t wearing a face mask.
Maybe the witch trials were in the wrong city and century.
The since-deleted tweet is at the link; JimRob runs a family-friendly site. There is a typo in the tweet but it’s pretty funny.
Thanks. There is a congressman in the GOP with that famous name. Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana. No relation. At first I thought he was the subject.
That’s the one.
Californicate isn’t the only state with fruits and nuts.
Did the cops act stupidly?
Berzerkly can't hold a candle to the stuff they get up to in Cambridge.
Seems pretty mild.
Sorry, not seeing why an apology is necessary.
Beer summit to follow.
Massachusetts should apologize to the nation for electing Rep. Joseph Kennedy (D-Mass). I really question his mental health.
