wearing one improperly can "actually increase your risk" of getting the disease.

Is he an idiot?

“Is he an idiot?”

Someone is...either him or the governors who are ordering it.

He is exactly correct.

Wearing a mask INCREASES the chance of getting the virus.

People wearing masks touch their face 5 times more often than people who do not. Most people constantly readjust their mask. Touching surfaces (counters, handles, windows, railings, etc) and then bringing whatever is on your fingers to your face is the best way to get the virus. Masks only increase the amount of touching of your face, therefore increasing the risk.

A mask can increase your risk if you use it improperly (e.g., touching your face more to adjust it, not washing it, using material so porous it has no effect, luring you into a false sense of security around people with the disease so that you no longer distance from them). On the other hand, a properly used mask provides some added measure of protection over no mask at all. So not an idiot, but I somewhat disagree with him on this.

No. Just like people who drive more aggressively because of seat belts, air bags, better brakes, and better handling vehicles, people with masks will take risks they normally would not take and cotton masks do absolutely nothing to protect you. And, as the article states, people wearing their masks touch their faces more. Also, if you do not know how to remove protective equipment, you are likely contaminating yourself doing so.

No. He is right. People wearing masks are more likely to mess with them meaning they touch their face more often. The masks are not effective at filtering the virus but may provide a false sense of security when coughing or sneezing. In addition. if not discarded or washed frequently the become loaded with bacteria and viruses. they do nothing to control the spread of the disease

He’s right.

Not that it matters.

Sigh.

No he is correct. Not having enough disposable masks and not properly sterilizing cloth masks also increases your risks

Masks are not as effective as proper hygiene. Wash your candy. Cover your cough. Don’t spit on the sidewalk. Wash your damn hands

Is he an idiot?>>> Surgical masks and homemade masks protect the other person not the wearer of the mask. A p/n95 can protect the wearer but the seal around your mouth/nose must be complete. a 3m 6001 shop mask or something similar must seal your nose and mouth and would offer more protection to the wearer.

“Is he an idiot?”

Nope. Did you think that mask had magical qualities??

I know if you wear a mask you are doing nothing but concentrating the contamination on that mask, which become a gross and disgusting viral pit.

“Is he an idiot?”

No. He is correct. Wearing a mask prevents a healthy person getting fresh air.

The point of getting outside and going to the beach is to get fresh air. Seeing people outside wearing masks is silly and goofy. I see some people where masks while driving a car. Doh! Just open the window.

#2. If you saw the picture of Rep. Maxine Waters wearing a mask upside down, you’d understand what the SG is talking about. However, in her case, I want her to wear it on her ass so that she does get the virus. Then it would cause a lot of brain damage and America would become a winner again.
