A clinical trial is underway at major New York hospitals to test the efficacy of heartburn medication, in combination with the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine, on coronavirus patients, The Post has learned.
More than 150 people so far are taking part in the study, which began earlier this month and is being conducted by the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, the research arm of Northwell Health, according to a spokesman for the hospital system.
Researchers are trying to find out whether famotidine the active compound in the over-the-counter heartburn drug Pepcid acts as an inhibitor of COVID-19, similar to the way certain drugs block the replication of HIV/AIDS.
Patients in the study are being given the heartburn drug intravenously along with hydroxychloroquine at Northwells North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital, said David Battinelli, vice president and chief medical officer of Northwell.

Trump should mention it and totally screw the test up
If it works to reduce viral load, why screw it up???
Apparently everything kills this virus off except lockdowns...
The FDA just pulled the other H2 heartburn drug Zantac. Now no one is going to be able to find this one. There are going to be some hurting people out there with acid re flux.
The problem with Pepsid is that it can have some of the most horrible side effects known to man. HCQ is really tame compared to pepsid. Many people report that Pepsid makes them feel like they have the flu. Severe muscle aches.
Since the FDA jerks pulled Ranitidine (which worked for my acid reflux), I hope Famotidine is good for covid, cause it doesn’t work for my acid reflux.
Do I get to sue the FDA for my eventual esophogeal cancer?
Cool! My son is a doctor there and he works with the COVIDs. I can’t wait to talk to him about it!
Has anyone heard of either of these organizations? Why not perform a proper clinical trial?
Im testing zinc, tums, icy/hot (for a bad hip), my regular heart medication, vitamins, and as much fresh air & sunshine as I can get. So far, so good. I had radiation for prostate cancer but that was two years ago. That probably dont count.
Bingo. Zantac worked. Pepcid doesn’t.
Zantac got pulled because of carcinogenics
There are others. I take protonix
My son takes Dexilant
Zantac, made in China, caused cancer. That is why it was pulled.
LOL. I take it twice a day already.
Horrible side effects? Haven’t noticed anything from it at all.
Trump should mention the vaccine too- and Remsivider and other drugs the left are touting so much- they won’t know what to do next-
Do you know how it caused cancer? The full dose sometimes had a much NDMA as a strip of bacon. Would you eat a strip of bacon if it meant you could avoid unbearable suffering? Do you question nothing that the government tells you?
i hear that Eric Ciaramella takes hydroxychloroquine ever since he swallowed his whistle
Virus likes acid environment
Figures that antacids would hinder its environment
Folk remedy to avoid the Spanish flu was to take a daily dose of baking soda mixed in water to alkalize the body ( dosage consult a Dr)
Similar principle
But what about all the people with heartburn. This will cause a shortage! /s
