If sunlight and heat and humidity is good for this, western Washington won’t do as well as, say, Texas.
Spent 10 days down year a few years ago during August. Temps got to 110 every day with 80% humidity and not a cloud in the sky, save for one.
Laura Ingram, tonight, had a UV light expert answer questions and describe how such a system could be installed in public areas. He said UV’s ability to kill virus has been well researched. It is used widespread in the sterilization of equipment.
Fans would circulate air up from the floor to the ceiling between special UV fluorescent light tubes. Airborne viruses would transported up in the air to be destroyed in seconds. Viruses on surfaces and shelving would be destroyed in minutes. People would have all exposed surfaces—hands, arms, face, head, clothing—rid of all viruses in minutes. The area would be essentially a sterile environment.
No damage from these specially generated light rays would occur to humans.

You wouldn’t put a AV light into the stomach, hoping you can kill some kind of flu virus in the stomach. That would kill useful gut bacteria we need for health. Also, viruses exist in the circulatory system as well as cells of the body. UV light cannot penetrate human cells and no way will it penetrate blood vessels.
UV light can penetrate clothing and skin, that’s why people can get sunburned if exposed to too much at a time, and how much they get depends on their melanin or lack thereof. Skin is translucent.

Trump isn’t one to stand around and talk science fiction nor does he have a habit of letting his internal monologue just leak out. That seemed like he knows something and is setting up the press again.
Should be easy enough to run tests in vitro to determine to what extent this might work, and get a feel for the parameters.

I’m saying that was a cringeworthy moment for the president.
I am not sure if it ever left the experimental stage, but a number of years ago there was a proposed cancer treatment that involved infusing the body with an engineered biocompound containing a microscopic amount of poison. The biocompound was designed to find and attach itself to cancer cells (in the blood as I recall). The patient’s blood was then circulated through a modified heart lung pump which exposed it to light of a specific wavelength to activate the biocompound to deliver its payload of poison directly to the cancer cells without poisoning the healthy cells nearby. There were also programs that used similar biocompounds as target markers so that focused intense light could be computer directed exactly to the cancer cells.
These types of experimental disease treatment are among NIH’s prime areas of research and I have no doubt PDJT has been briefed at some fairly high level on NIH’s ongoing research programs. This may have been the medical research he was referring to.
Unfortunately, the President tends to be pretty casual about details when speaking extemporaneously. The country pays to have this medical expertise on staff. He needs to learn to avoid the temptation to expound and just turn to whatever medical expert he was briefed by and direct them to provide the same information to the questioner.
That way he doesn’t get tangled up in trying to report details that someone else is more knowledgeable about.

I wonder if blood could be run from the body through a UV system to rid it of pathogens or to weaken pathogens without damaging blood cells, and put back in, like a kind of “uv dialysis?”
Or can UV light on and through skin do the same thing to blood carried in capillaries just beneath the surface, and given enough time for complete circulation, effective? Or is this virus entirely airborne and only in the airways not the blood?
Preach it! You get breakthroughs by looking at things from every angle and asking “what if”. Especially now, this is exactly what we need across the board.
