Florida Beach Drone Footage Counters Media’s ‘Packed Beaches’ Narrative

New drone footage showing Florida beaches goers social distancing is causing much concern after other news outlets used older pictures that seemed to indicate crowded beaches. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reopened Florida beaches, a decision which incurred criticism from long-term shutdown proponents.

The drone footage, found here, shows people keeping more than enough recommended social distance.

However, not all news agencies handled the Florida beach reopenings from a similar perspective.

Forbes, an American business magazine, utilized a social media feature image that showed beach goes nearly shoulder to shoulder.

I read earlier that that last picture is actually from a Los Angeles beach. I do not know when but I don’t think it was recent. Just a stock picture they found of a beach that was crowded which is the image they wanted to project.

I watched part of the US Air Force Academy’s graduation. The cadets were sitting in chairs that are 8 feet apart from the next chairs side to side and front to back. An aerial view clearly showed that they were quite far apart. Then a photo from a low level made it look like they were just about touching each other. Camera angle can be tricky.

I wonder how much publicity were given to the signs that went up, in San Francisco IIRC, showing how to stay 6 feet apart from others. Unfortunately the signs were made by someone who forgot geometry and had no common sense, because the diagonal between the four corners of a square was 6 feet long. It was obvious that the corners of the square, where people would be standing were much less than 6 feet apart.
