Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Breitbart News on Saturday that he is moving to reopen his states economy starting next week because the United States depends on Texass success to thrive.
Abbott, in an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel, said that Texas is the economic engine of America and must reopen now that the coronavirus crisis is in decline. Texas, he noted, is the worlds 10th largest economy on its own.
As you and your listeners probably know, Texas has always been ranked number one in the United States for creating jobs and for leading in economic development and for gross domestic product. Texas is the economic engine of America, Abbott said. For America to get going, Texas has to get going. By God, Texas is getting going now.
Abbott launched a series of executive orders on Friday this week to begin phasing in the immediate reopening of the Texas economy next weekahead of schedule. Starting on Monday, the states parks will reopen. Then on Wednesday, Texans will be able to begin undergoing elective medical procedures again. On Friday, the state will roll out a Retail to Go effort whereby retailers in the state will be allowed to operate the way restaurants have, where consumers can order items online or over the phone and then pick them up at the store or have them delivered to their homes. The following Monday, April 27, the strike force Abbott has assembled will deliver more reopening recommendations on how to get the state booming again.
So what I rolled out yesterday is this massive team making sure Texas is going to take a lead as we open up the state, and Texas is doing business again, Abbott said. What the team is doing is they are working...

Ya darned tootin!
Damn straight!
What I heard him say was something like “We’re re-opening, but most everything will remain closed.”
Ouch :)
Depends on the definition of re-opening.
Good God! Strike force? WTF? Here is your strike force Abbott, open state. If you get sick eat hydroxychloquine and zinc. Wait 1 week and go back to work. Repeat if necessary?
Gov. Greg Abbott on Reopening:.... Texas Is the Economic Engine of America”......
Umm-mmm....Gov.Cuomo said New York is the Economic engine in the US...and further that the nation can not re-open without them....
I’ll side with Texas on this one....Cuomo’s always blowing smoke about New York.
Until my brows are waxed back from one to two, he doesn’t impress me much.
Exactly! I was utterly disappointed Friday.
“Retail to go”? Seriously? Most stores have been doing that all along, and hello - internet?
He needs to stop dragging this out, and actually OPEN.
I wonder how many Mosques will be open on April 24th - Ramadan in NY and NJ? Christians are not allowed to go to church - but I wonder if stay at home orders apply to Muslims during Ramadan? just wondering.
We went out today in the DFW area, and there were people EVERYWHERE. We went to Target and Total Wine.... tons of people. Maybe half wearing masks. No one seeming concerned about being out.
If we can go those places, we can go to all the other places. Having only a few places open just makes those places more crowded when people have reached their cabin-fever limits.
Stop the nonsense. Lift these stupid restrictions. They’ve gone on too long.
What’s he waiting on?
Reruns of Strike Force on DVD.
I would like that set myself.
That's what should have been done in the beginning. Theaters, concerts, and restaurants should have been advised to only fill at half-capacity for about a month. The social distancing is a great idea. But there was no need to shut the country down. I am furloughed for 4 weeks at my main job.
Its the Greatest State in the Union
Your timeline is too long.
The friggin engine is not useful if the transmission is shot, the tires are flat, the prop-shaft is sheared, and the road is overgrown with trees.
Speaking as someone who is classed as an essential worker (IT) and has been supporting businesses, no - most smaller stores and small businesses *closed* in Dallas. Half my clients went (at least temporarily) poof in Dallas County. This may be different elsewhere.
Pretty certain that when it comes to re-opening and Abbott, the crony part of capitalism will be the part that gets a head start.
