Travesty is not a nice word. It usually is applied to gross perversions of justice, and that apparently is the context Attorney General William Barr desired when he dropped it into an interview answer the other day in the breezy courtyard of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
His composed, understated delivery almost disguised the weighty magnitude of that disturbing word and the loaded adjective that preceded it. I think what happened to him, he said, referring to the president and the FBIs counterintelligence investigation into his campaign, was one of the greatest travesties in American history.
Okay, its important to pause for a moment and absorb what the AG said. He just called an FBI investigation not just a travesty but one of the greatest travesties in the nations history. It was an unprecedented statement by an attorney general about his own departments premier agency.
The FBI has made plenty of mistakes, but never in its 112-year history has an FBI investigation been characterized as a travesty, let alone one that equates to other hall-of-fame travesties in American history.
Is the AGs assessment fair? The answer is entwined in his next statement: Without any basis (the FBI) started this investigation into (Donald Trumps) campaign .
Oops, stop again right there. Mr. Barr is making a definitive statement about that which many of us have speculated all along, namely that the weirdly unprecedented investigative team put together by former FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe did not have adequate legal reasons to open a case into the Trump campaign in the first place. The attorney general just confirmed that.

Good analysis.
No carrot, actually NO NOTHING!
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Justice delayed is justice denied
Ho Hum
Yawn.
Wake me when this charade is over.
First, I’ve zero faith in the numbers from China, not believable. Second, the corona deaths are largely over the last 4 weeks (excluding China), not January 1st. Third, a lot of those other numbers involve personal choices. Forth, evidence available points to this virus being extremely virulent. If we didn’t take the measures we have I do believe we might be in the millions - just in the USA.
“Never give warnings. Why would he do that?”
Warnings or whatever, but the misdeeds against Trump must be introduced in small, provable steps to the large segment of our population that hates Trump and loves Obama.
What about the 4 guys the FBI framed for murder to cover for their mob snitch.
Guys spent years in jail. 2 died there.
FBI is dirty.
Now will come the Barr hating Anti Trump Freepers with their bag pipe snark.
Those who hate barr are closet Trump haters
Thanks for the cliche.
Actually, it's the investigators who need to prove in a court that there were adequate legal reasons to get warrants.
James Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe did not have adequate legal reasons to get warrants and open a case.
We knew this several years ago. And that includes a couple years where Jeff Sessions did nothing.
Let me know when they start the perp walks.
Same song.
If the House swings GOP in 200 days, maybe things will heat up.
He’s just gave the perversions of justice folks time to talk now or seeing cell time.
Even the Mafia has rats and the democrats party is infested with them they all are me me people.
In this instance...don't tell lies when you're brought in to testify or you will get burned.
JMO, YMMV
Its an encouragement for rats to come in from the cold before its too late to get a deal.
p
I can guarantee you if it reaches trial there will be jurors whose families will be threatened if they don't acquit.
Tomorrow! Tomorrow...tomorrow.....
tomorrow...
Tomorrow!
And by logical extension there was no justification for the 2+ year $30 mil Mueller probe - and Mueller had to know that - or be institutionalized ... meaning why was he ever chosen in the first place? (There are no positive answers; he was either corrupt or senile.)
