We will remember this time as the Great Media-Driven Panphobia of 2020.
...
So just how deadly is the virus? Though comparisons are looked down on because analogies have to be exact, we can still learn from another fever that swept through the land. The Centers for Disease Control on the swine flu of 2009 in the USA (emphasis added):
During the pandemic, CDC provided estimates of the numbers of 2009 H1N1 cases, hospitalizations and deaths on seven different occasions. Final estimates were published in 2011. These final estimates were that from April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010 approximately 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (8868-18,306) occurred in the United States due to pH1N1.

We’re at somewhere near 20,600 deaths right now from COVID-19.
If you could guarantee nothing worse than a mild fever, you would have a point.
You can’t so you don’t.
Give me liberty or kill my grandparents.
If you could guarantee nothing worse than a mild fever, you would have a point.
You cant so you dont.

No one can guarantee you’ll make it to the end of the day. Do you live your life in constant fear?
You can’t guarantee you won’t die today slipping in the bathtub, in a car accident, etc.
So are you going to live your life in FEAR?
Statistically, even if 100,000 died in the USA this year, you would be MUCH more likely to die of, for example a medical mistake, which takes 400,000 a year, according to the CDC..Are you going to stop going to doctors because of that fear.
You are being manipulated. Face it.
RE: Give me liberty or give me a mild fever
What about the tens of thousands who die?
“No one can guarantee youll make it to the end of the day. Do you live your life in constant fear?”
No, but would you drive your car if the risk of death of each drive in the car was slightly less than one percent?
Due to symptom-less communicability everyone will get Covid-19. So you can get it without having a job or an economy or you can get it with a job and an economy. Which options gives a better chance at survival?
Great title. The Founding Fathers would approve.
Very good point! We have nothing to lose and everything to gain by reopening the economy.
What about the tens of millions who have lost their jobs?
The H1N1 was harder on younger people than the elderly. They think older people had an immunity, possibly from the 1968 pandemic. Since younger people are healthier and stronger, and the Wuhan Virus seems to be hardest on the infirm, that could be an explanation for the death count disparity.
Side note: what was the life expectancy in Patrick Henry’s time?
“17th-century English life expectancy was only about 35 years, largely because infant and child mortality remained high. Life expectancy was under 25 years in the early Colony of Virginia, and in seventeenth-century New England, about 40 percent died before reaching adulthood.”
Yup, if you made it to 15 or so you had a good chance of living a full life. Both my wife and my families had many well into their 70’s in the 1700’s and full graveyards of the young.
“What about the tens of thousands who die?”
That’s exactly what the rag-tag American soldiers fighting the world’s best army for FREEDOM during the Revolutionary War whined about. Oh, wait ... they didn’t.
Are dying while positive and/or dying while presumed positive included in the death stats?
It also set the stage for some pretty tragic Victorian literature.
I no longer care.
Great title. The Founding Fathers would approve.

Unlike the last resident of the White House.
There is no way they would have approved of a British subject/Kenyan national with Indonesian citizenship.
No one born with more than ONE nationality is a natural born citizen.
That was PRECISELY what they were excluding.
