Democrats opt for blackmail over small-business money — and the media covers for them

What a deal for Democrats: They get to hold the economy for ransom, and the media blithely cover for them.

On Thursday, Senate Democrats nixed a simple but urgent request to boost cash in the emergency small business loan program Congress set up this month from $350 billion to $600 billion.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin requested the cash because funds are running low, just weeks after the program launched.

Rather than comply, Democrats issued demands: They insisted the new money include $60 billion for “community-based lenders” that serve minorities, women, nonprofits and other groups. And the bill also had to OK an immediate $250 billion for cities, states, hospitals, food stamps and other needs.

“Everything is an opportunity,” explained House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Democrats, she said, will use talks over more loan funds as a way to address “disparities” in America.

And if they don’t get their way, no one gets a dime more. Never mind that businesses face bankruptcy or that 17 million people filed for jobless benefits in recent weeks.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pleaded for action: “I am literally talking about deleting the number 350 and writing 600 in its place.” That’s it. “Please do not block emergency aid you do not oppose just because you want something more.”

McConnell essentially promised other needs would be addressed in the next big rescue package, once it’s clear what those needs are. Yet Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats refused to budge.

According to classic political science and history, after medieval kingdoms based on the will of God and the king, modern, secular and liberal States arose. Those modern States are sustained on secular laws that have the purpose of protecting social welfare and individual autonomy. Apparently, most States in the west have adopted democracy, impartial laws, protection of human rights and, therefore, have moved towards modernity.

It is a common idea that crime, as in movies, is about bad guys confronting good guys, and that they only sporadically get in touch through bribery or infiltration. However, data shows that a gray area of massive collaboration and co-optation between good and bad guys is constantly forming: subversive and counter-subversive groups, public servants, politicians, candidates, and different private agents working together to define the rules of societies, to shape institutions according to their partial and criminal interests.

In States in which those situations are observed, most of formal democracy is preserved and fulfilled, which means that bills are proposed, laws approved, and electoral processes are held. Beyond this form, members of criminal networks are the actors in those processes.

Pelosi sees the taxpayer dollars as hers to keep or distribute according to what she determines....her way, when and how.

How can this be corrected? It is obvious to me that elections are not the way. I am approaching 77 and in all my years of voting I have only seen glimmers of improvement amid piles of filth. Crooks get in office and stay a lifetime. We get a great president such as President Trump only to see him forced to preside over a divided house. Guess I am just ranting, excuse me.

You articulate the problem well... that’s a good first step. Probably the only solution is a return to limited, constitutional government. At least the politicians can do less damage that way.

I wish Democrats showed the same concerns for Americans that they appeared to show for Ukrainians back in February and stop blocking aid.

Well-stated. About the only thing I can think of short of specifically targeted eugenics is...

READY - AIM - VOTE - REPUBLICAN (Leadership at the top) Eliminate a lot of the SCUM in 1 election. We can get the rest of the SCUM in subsequent elections. More individual freedom/Constitutional government, less tyranny is never more than a couple of election cycles away.

Bloodless...but requires super informed citizenry

We expect this BS from the rats but MSM as whole covering for them even on this shows just how bad it is. All these small businesses lie dying and it is fine with them as long as the rats win.

Unfortunately, if you go to the reddit small business forum all I see if blame on the Republicans for the stopping of this particular funding...they are blaming the Republicans for not funding the EIDL loans and only focusing on the PPP loans. More small business need the EIDL loans.

I can’t understand how they think it is the Republicans who held this up...really depresses me...people and especially small businesses are hurting and the democrats are winning in the misinformation game.

In that reddit small business forum they are saying Republicans only wanted to fund the PPP loan while democrats wanted to five all small businesses $25,000 advanced grants in the EIDL and Republicans refused...

So sick of all the politicizing and misinformation...

If this crap goes on much longer working people, not being allowed to work, will be forced to vote for a living. So, Venezuela here we come. I don’t have the tech skills for this, but if folks here who do could get out the word on the Oxy/Az/Zn cure, quickly, maybe life can start to recover late April. Things like running counts on patients cured, pointing out the value to society of bypassing state govs on allowing Dr prescriptions ($30+-) rather than requiring hospitalization or forbidding the meds altogether, saturating presidential tweet replies with these ideas. We are blessed with a great distribution system, and the manufacture of these meds progresses rapidly, but the value and importance of getting on the stick with these things is being buried by an anti-American culture/media. One thing is certain, IF WORKING PEOPLE ARE LEFT IN THE POSITION OF ONLY BEING ALLOWED TO VOTE FOR A LIVING... THEY WILL. Not even a George Washington could prevent it.

Pelosi is playing a very dangerous game. I hope that her game doesn’t come back to bite her in the a$$.

Also it would be constructive to emphasize the big difference between the HydroxyC and the plainC, BEING anti-inflammatory -vs- inflammatory. Some marginal difficulties with the plainC due to this difference, are being used to smear the HydroxyC. Good night to all, and thanks to anyone who can advance these ideas. A Venezuelan future awaits us, otherwise.
