Both surgical and cotton masks were found to be ineffective for preventing the dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 from the coughs of patients with COVID-19. A study conducted at two hospitals in Seoul, South Korea, found that when COVID-19 patients coughed into either type of mask, droplets of virus were released to the environment and external mask surface. A brief research report is published in Annals of Internal Medicine.
During respiratory viral infection, face masks are thought to prevent transmission, leading health care experts to recommend their use during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a shortage of both N95 and surgical masks, which have been shown to prevent the spread of influenza virus, cotton masks have gained interest as a substitute. However, it is not known if surgical or cotton masks worn by patients with COVID-19 prevent contamination of the environment.
Researchers from Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea instructed 4 patients with COVID-19 to cough 5 times each onto a petri dish while wearing the following sequence of masks: no mask, surgical mask, cotton mask, and again with no mask. Mask surfaces were swabbed with aseptic Dacron swabs in the following sequence: outer surface of surgical mask, inner surface of surgical mask, outer surface of cotton mask, and inner surface of cotton mask. The researchers found SARS COV-2 on all surfaces. These findings suggest that recommendations to wear face masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 may not be effective.

This is very strange. I’m having a hard time believing the results of this test. It also contradicts another statement in the report...

One says the INSIDE of the masks were negative, the other statement says that they found the virus on ALL surfaces.
Color me extremely skeptical.

Shave the beard or apply a lot of vaseline, then fit the aluminum thing over the bridge of the nose.
Look for visible areas where mask does not meet face.
Very tired of professionals.
Amazing how many doctors, nurses, hospital, county and state emergency planners didn't see this coming even knowing that it would come.
I don't understand how they're running out of PPE when it's only been 1.5 months and it's only really tight in a couple of big cities.
This isn't the Zombie Apocalypse, by any means.
Since they've cancelled elective procedures the need for PPE shouldn't be that far from the norm.
6 months ago you could have filled your garage with PPE for very little.
Why didn't hospitals have more?
Why didn't doctors and nurses who would be on the front line spend $100 on Ebay and stock up instead of whining that Uncle Sugar is neglecting them?

I've had some very funny "fit" tests.
One...when I first moved to OK...had to go and get the test...Had to sit down with 3 other people in a line and fill out paperwork. I got to the place for my SSI number..and I wrote in the last four digits. And handed it in...
The person on the other side of the table...said,,,you have to fill in your whole SSI number...and I said..I'm not going to do that. You can get that info from HR.
The person next to me..gave a look and a psst...I looked at her and asked her if she had ever had her personal info stolen. She just stared at me...then said no.
I told her I have had it stolen..and asked her if she could guess where. Told her my info was STOLEN FROM THE HOSPITAL I WORKED AT IN SOCAL!
She shut up...
That's the biggest mystery of all this panic-infested talk. Why are there so many idiots in the medical profession? They are touted as "experts", yet they have no common sense. Imagine if you counted on them to repair your automobile and they said they can't because you need to find oil filters and socket wrenches for them to use. Or if you wanted your house painted by professional painters yet they say they can't complete it because they ran out of brushes and ladders.
Inadequate supplies of PPE. Expired stocks of PPE. Emergency FEMA stockpiles of PPE depleted by Obama and never replenished. State governors who depleted stocks of PPE. Meanwhile, companies selling millions of PPE supplies to overseas buyers while American medical staff say they can't buy them?
Really amazing how we have so many idiots in charge of emergency preparedness and hospitals and they think they're better than us normal folks.
Somebody needs to make a bright red mask with a BIG white Trump across it nobody will come near you problem solved!!!
