There are few places in this nation safer from the coronavirus than seclusion in one’s vehicle. While driving, we are neither likely to contract the disease nor spread it to others. But in Pennsylvania, the spirit of caution has been replaced by authoritarianism and overt abuse of power as law enforcement officers have been ordered to ticket people simply for driving without an “essential” purpose.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) took great exception to news of this degree of enforcement.
politicians (and it seems to be only Dems doing this, eg Wolf in PA, DeBlasio in NYC, Cooper in NC), protect public safety, but WE DON’T LIVE IN A POLICE STATE. Resist authoritarianism & don’t abuse power. Driving a car alone is not a public health threat.
understandable considering the lockdowns. People do not like to feel as if they’re prisoners, even in our own homes. She was putting nobody at risk, including herself, yet she was pulled over and ticketed. That’s not the American way. At least it shouldn’t be.
Some would say we should wait until after the coronavirus crisis before we move forward. That would be a tremendous mistake for two reasons. First, trying to pry newfound power from authoritarian progressives is like trying to take a bone from a hungry rottweiler. Second, the longer the people are exposed to draconian policies, the more normalized it becomes. We cannot afford to wait to defend our rights.
There is a right way and wrong way to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. While the left is quick to say we must “listen to doctors” and “follow the science,” they are very selective about which doctors and what science we’re supposed to follow. I guess if I was pulled over I would insist on being advised of what law I was violating, what the penalty was of violating that law, when the law (if any) was passed and by whom and have the officer write a ticket. Chances are as soon as I am allowed to go I would probably tear up the citation.
Well, there was a paddle boarder out here who apparently tried that. I think he got arrested. On a side note, I live in LA county and I rode my bicycle for 3 twenty five mile rides last week and ran twice. I passed cops every trip and they never even looked at me. And the trail I ride had crowds similar to holidays.

I live in CT. On the local “open forum” FB group I have seen plenty of liberals, mostly Gen X and Female, talking about how upset they are when they see people simply outside. Anything from a couple who lives tougher walking their dog or a bunch a cars at a state park and whining about “MuY SOciAl dIstANcIng” and how they should start calling the police on hikers or a father and son playing catch.
Luckily, more and more people have been telling these people to go pound sand. Some are essentially bragging how long they have not even opened the front door and how good they are for following Comrade Lamont’s orders.
I recall the Chicago Trump rally that never happened as Trump had to cancel due to all violence and threats that were going on near the venue while he was in the air. Later Cruz told the leftist media what they wanted to hear, suggesting and implying all the violence was Trump's fault.
That leftist BS did it for me.

I like Ted too. Always have. Wish he and Trump hadn’t gotten so tangled up during the election. I think they have put that behind them.
