Follow what South Korea did:

Test baby, test!

Up until now there has been No threading of any needle. They took a meat axe to the economy and passed out a few bandaids. Even at that the DNC/MSM accuses Trump of choosing money over safety.

Herd immunity is key. Give this virus to the young and healthy. SK can get a relapse because they ignore this.

I was going to go back and see if there is any data on what the current herd immunity rate in Korea might be.

SK seems to have some knowledgeable biochemists. Now the race is on to find a vaccine to bump their current number before it comes back to bite them.

Medium term protection of the vulnerable and opening up the economy is only possible if we allow 60% of the population to get infected.

The threshold % seems to vary with the specific agent of disease. I read that Measles is 90%

I don’t think the CDC have any CV specific data to put that fraction in an interval of +/- 5%.

The public should be way past tired of this before Mothers’ Day.

90% leads to eradication. 60% leads to the disease slowly fizzling to near nothing.

As will be the case with most highly infectious diseases. The problem is that you are trying to break the chain of propagation, and so enough have to be immune that on average one infected person passes it on to less than one person and thus the chain will die before it passes to everyone who isn't already infected. In fact you would like it to be much less than one. As folks have pointed out, American Natives did not develop herd immunity to smallpox.

Does “let er rip” mean that Jim Robinson is a Flubro?

No, but there’s no way the government can ‘plan’ a restart of the economy, so I say when it’s time, just let ‘er rip and let God sort it out via the free market.

Well... they might as well leave the schools closed for the duration (spare the kids from as much brainwashing as posible) and all non-essential parts of government should stay closed—permanently.

And who’s to say it’s time? Look around you. We’re pent up and rarin’ to go.

"How does America thread the needle between economic and public health? What’s the sweet spot?"

_______________

Thread the needle? The "needle" has already been mutilated.

.... here is an attainable "sweet spot". (actually it may be about a half inch closer to the batter's hands -- it was just a nice picture.)

Yes indeed, sweet spot, and it looks to me as if that ball is heading to right field. He’s hitting the ball over the plate, rather than slightly in front of it. Not a criticism at all, especially today with the prominence of shifts.

When I was coaching kids, I taught them to "crush a cigarette butt" with their back foot, this turns the hips toward the pitcher and they should wind up with their belt buckle facing the mound. This guy finishes his swing in complete balance. Man, I loved those days!!

PS: It's time to start ignoring government, judges, and anyone in authority. They deserve zero respect.
