Sometime in June 2001, while browsing the Wall Street Journal, I stumbled upon an item on an inside page all the way at the bottom. It was no more than 75 words in a box. It covered a CIA security announcement concerning an increase in internet and cell phone traffic among suspected terrorists from suspect areas in the Arab world. I canceled a Fourth of July trip downtown because of it.
I assumed that if an attack was coming, it would be on America's premium self-celebratory holiday, the Fourth of July.
When nothing happened, I took off my tinfoil hat, ascribing my worries to my suspicion of Islam suspicions I had carefully curated from prior events such as the first World Trade Center attack, the Cole, the embassy bombings, and the killing of Americans soldiers in the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut.
It has become accepted knowledge that America's intelligence agencies missed 9/11 warning signs but that's not entirely true. Signs were seen, but they impelled no action. We were so convinced that the fall of the Soviet Union as the end of history precluded any need for urgency. Yet, even if there had been, no one, at that point, knew how to react.
I don't think I need to remind everyone of what happened on 09/11/2001.
I share this vignette as a means of showing that there are always signs. We, for whatever reason, miss them, or we ignore them for political purposes, or we refuse to believe them because they contradict the core tenets of our belief system.

That's ok; for America already has plans on how to END one with them.
How do you do that with no meds or antibiotics which all come from China? We need to re industrialize first.
I agree. There is too much interdependence now in our economies. China is pushing, hard to get their economy going again. People are back at work. The government is approving EVERY project that's been on hold for environmental review.
The new 5 year plan is coming soon. I doubt it includes "war with the US".
That said, I could seen them trying to flex their muscles in the South China Sea. Maybe some shots get exchanged. Just to show they are not afraid. For public consumption at home, of course.
What is them keep them from doctoring the meds and/or souping up the antibiotics that they ship over here?
We need to have really high import tariffs and on shore the production EVERYTHING we need.
I firmly believe China is planning war, and soon. I’m 50/50 on Covid being the first shot in that war.
However, it will not be with America. China will seize Taiwan.
Agreed. This is fearmongering. I’m sure China wants to attack at some point, but doing it at a time when we are as militarily strong as we have been in decades? That is not their way.
This was a subtle attack to weaken us and maybe damage Trump. But I don’t see China ever taking that direct of approach to defeating us.
For the reasons you state — and for ones you do not state, such as the fact that there are weapons in our inventory that the civilian populace are unaware of — China will not fight us. Give them 20 years, they might. But not yet.
Try buying a tv or phone where parts are not made in China
Im for limited government. One of the limited purpose of government is to protect us from other nations. Problem is they were into all the loot they got looking elsewhere.
Theyve been preparing for decades
Correct. Talk about headline fail.
China needs to be rid of at least a quarter billion people. A war would do it, but devastate the infrastructure. So they created a highly communicable disease that mainly kills off the elderly and medically compromised, the "useless eaters".
The bonus to them is that it has devastated the economies of those they consider rivals or even enemies.
It also devastates the economies of those they consider customers.
They know that, so they'd nuke us. Regrettably, only a Pearl Harbor type nuclear strike, decapitating the ChiCom regime, would be effective without the cost of a few U.S. Cities to Chinese nukes. Not that I'd miss San Freaksicko, but...
Push now and they might end up with ten permanent US military installations in Taiwan, and US/Vietnamese/Philippine joint action taking back all of their fake islands in the South China Sea. The deliberate spread of the Wuhan Virus to the West was an evil but smart reaction to their lab accident - which might otherwise have taken them out of the economic game without doing any damage to their enemies.
Once President Newsom takes the reins in January, 2025 (he's a lot prettier than mean old Pence) China can easily buy whoever and whatever they want.
my meds come from India
“That said, I could seen them trying to flex their muscles in the South China Sea. Maybe some shots get exchanged. Just to show they are not afraid. For public consumption at home, of course.”
I think it will come by an indirect angle, with China taking military action vis-a-vis Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines or elsewhere leaving the U.S. - and Japan - to draw “red lines in sand” that China will decide to cross. It will happen when China thinks it is a good time and a convenient time, to China.
I think that is the point of the original article: Now, is a pretty good time for China.
Not sure if it's good enough for them to pull the trigger...I don't THINK so, but, it wouldn't shock me.
“I think that is the point of the original article: Now, is a pretty good time for China.”
May be, but the author also suggested that the CCP will use the theme of blaming the U.S. for the Wuhan virus as an excuse - which I give no credence to, and offered little for why now China thinks it would be a good time. As I said, I don’t think the author understands China or Asia (and Asia IS the theater where any war China starts would start).
Let’s hope it
