Note: This story has been updated with comments from the U.S. Navy.
The captain of a nuclear aircraft carrier with more than 100 sailors infected with the coronavirus pleaded Monday with U.S. Navy officials for resources to allow isolation of his entire crew and avoid possible deaths in a situation he described as quickly deteriorating.
The unusual plea from Capt. Brett Crozier, a Santa Rosa native, came in a letter obtained exclusively by The Chronicle and confirmed by a senior officer on board the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, which has been docked in Guam following a COVID-19 outbreak among the crew of more than 4,000 less than a week ago.
This will require a political solution but it is the right thing to do, Crozier wrote. We are not at war. Sailors do not need to die. If we do not act now, we are failing to properly take care of our most trusted asset our Sailors.

“I did my four years in the navy.”
Whose navy?
Maybe the letter is legit, but it looks strange to this Army guy. No thru or to addresses...looks like a “to whom it may concern.” Maybe the Navy does business this way.
IMHO this virus is a weapon.
I had expressed it was a message to the West, but now I think it is just the beginning of the plan;
And the main event is yet to come.
-The re-election of Trump. ...or not.
-The move on Taiwan. ...and our answer
-The next virus, possibly a little more deadly... followed by a new more favorable trade deal for China...
I am very interested in knowing how an internal military memo made it to every news outlet around the world within 24 hrs. If its a legit memo (which also seems odd), then how did it get to SF Chronicle?
He needs to be relieved from command.
How is that treason?
Iranian
I asked several times early on what folks thought was the status with the Chinese military folks due to this virus.
I wonder if it knocked back their capabilities for a brief while.
I guess we will never know.
Apparently, they’re better at keeping something that important a secret.
Of course it’s through cruel intimidation and murder.
But we should have prison sentences for folks who let stuff this important leak.
Round up the usual suspects.
We are not at war & shouldn’t be for the foreseeable future.
Grant the sailors onboard what they need to be safe.
Guess Natzi has been busy again...

As she calls it, the WRAP-UP SMEAR. It goes as follows:
1. LIE about your opponent.
2. Send LIE to media, who willingly share with their other cohorts for publication from many sources.
3. Merchandise the lie. Sell it to the TV talking heads and fein outrage over the LIE.
The fact that it is a letter doesn't even pass the smell test. A ship's CO wouldn't send a letter like this on a subject like this. He would send an op immediate secret message to his TF commander, his administrative commander, cc Pacific Fleet, oh and since it's a CVN, the Director of Naval Reactors, given that this has a immediate potential impact on the safe operation of a naval reactor.
Yes! GreatGameIndia is all over this like white on rice!
India, by the way, is in a national lockdown! 1.5 billion people are confined to their homes for 21 days.
Maybe and maybe not. Your post is only based on a situation you know absolutely zero about.
They should be okay, overall.
How do you know this? Are you on staff?
And what has been done to Trump? He was on fire at his State of the Union. Americans saw a proud leader who stood up to the tyrants. But China played to his altruist side which left him with the choice to destroy the economy he had breathed life back into or let Americans suffer the consequence of their own choices. Sadly, the confident energetic Trump hasn’t been seen at all lately. He knows better than anybody the economic good news is over for a very long time. I hope he’s reelected so we can benefit from his wisdom in the recovery. China is masterful at asymmetric war.
