ORLANDO, Fla. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Monday announced that he is issuing a stay-at-home order for the southern portion of the state as the number of positive coronavirus cases grows.
The order will apply to Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Monroe counties through the middle of May.
The Safer-At-Home [order] is the right move for southeast Florida, DeSantis said at a press conference at the Hard Rock Stadium, just north of Miami. This is the time to do the right thing. Listen to all of your local officials.
We will do this through the middle of May, and then see where were at, he continued.
There are more than 5,000 positive coronavirus cases in Florida, with the states department of health reporting 523 new positive cases on Sunday. The four counties included in the stay-at-home order make up over 58 percent of the cases in the Sunshine State, according to The Miami Herald.
The governor also announced a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine on any travelers entering the state from Louisiana, in addition to a mandatory two-week quarantine from the greater New York City area.
New York City has become a hotspot for the virus, while Louisianas cases have skyrocketed over the past week.

Matt Drudge, who lives in Miami, is now on lockdown
FURD
It is. I dont know how you enforce a partial state mandate like this. Could be an experiment for the rest of the US.
Fla has more cases than Pa and DeSantis still has the beaches and golf courses open and kept the state open for Spring Break. This action speaks of door...barn...horse.
Who, DeSantis? Northam? Both?
Welcome home.
You can get bagels and cheese from the old Coffee Corner , Dunkin Donuts is open for takeout, as is the Satuit. Can't do much about the weather. -Tom
Mar-A-Lago is also in PB County.
I just found out today a man and wife from my community have been in ICU at Northwest Broward hospital.

And PA is much smaller than FL as far as land mass and only has slightly more than 1/2 the people FL does.
Amazing that people here who profess to love freedom and civil liberties are now throwing anyone under the bus who isn’t advocating treating their state’s citizens as criminals.
FL has a finely tuned emergency response system, is well prepared (south FL still has over 30% of their hospital system empt, we have secured a supply of hydroxycholorquine, etc) and our death rate is still low compared to many states.
I. for one, am grateful DeSantis is not running around with his hair on fire and nuked civil liberties unnecessarily.
Howdy neighbor. Just north of you. About a mile past the county line into St. Lucie Co.
Eff Drudge! We go here now... every few hours:
I really hope Drudge's site is suffering bigly these days from lack of hits.
You noticed that too. This stay at home order should have been given earlier than now. But better late than never.
I think St. Lucie county still has open boat ramps but not Port St. Lucie. So check to see if the ramp is in the city limits. The once close to me, River Park Marina is in the county and open.
I know beaches are closed. Counties and municipalities are perfectly able to issue a closed order for golf courses, as are individual owners.
I hope they recover.
Well some might think this is simply an extension of orders shutting down New York.

Americans and their elected politicians are about to be faced with a reality they have no control over. It's one thing to stay under voluntary house arrest in the name of "public safety" when the weather is cold and the sky is gloomy. But Spring is about to bloom in its full glory ... long warm, sunny days and pleasant evenings. And as the Chinese Flu runs its course and we learn this scary virus may be no more dangerous than the "regular flu" I expect people will take matters into their own hands and do what they think is best for themselves and their families.
What's the alternative? Are you really going to tell your kids they can't go to the local park or playground until the Fourth of July as Democrat governor Newsom of California has stated (well, he did say his mandated restrictions on how we live could last for another 12 weeks)? Are young people on the hunt for other young people for any number of reasons going to continue to "shelter in place" rather than go to a concert or to a ball game or to a friend's BBQ party on a beautiful Spring evening? Are business owners who have worked hard for decades to build their businesses continue to kneel at the feet of the elected and unelected bureaucrats drunk with their vastly expanded power? Will Americans and American families who who have been watching their plans for the future continue to fade under the current mandates going to continue to stand idly by and watch as politicians demand they continue to obey every new edict they issue, seemingly on a daily basis once the hysteria has dissipated? I don't think so.
Once the media/social media-driven hysteria withers in the face of hard data, Americans will realize that the politicians who have assumed powers far beyond any authority granted them in the various state constitutions were elected to serve us ... not the other way around ... that we are not here to make the politicians look good or to appear wise with their superior intellect.
Our mistake was not that we acquiesced meekly to the reasonably effective and good intentioned advice provided by the "experts", but that we allowed, through our elected officials, those "experts" to design and direct public policy. While experts, by definition, excel in their respective fields, their narrow focus results most often in unwise public policy decisions which, as in this instance, has done widespread significant damage to our economy and to our society which will take considerable time to repair (and that's assuming there's not another "crisis" on the horizon ... such as "climate change".)
I remain steadfast in my belief that the American spirit for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, although damaged by the current breathless panic and hysteria, remains intact and will resurface strongly over the next few weeks, and that our elected officials will be brought back to the reality of limited authority over how Americans live their lives.
Not blaming DeSantis for what I am Bout to say, but I just found out that a teacher I worked with for 20 years and his wife died yesterday from Covid. The lived in Boynton Beach. He was a gym teacher and avid golfer in his early 70s. His wife, also a golfer was in her mid 60s. How they got the virus I don’t know and I’m not gonna blame DeSantis, but I still disagree with his decisions.
