Louisiana Governor on Not Shutting Down Mardi Gras Over Coronavirus Concerns: No One From Federal Government Told Us to Cancel Anything
News Weak ^ | 03/29/2020 | Benjamin Fearnow

Posted on 03/30/2020 9:41:56 AM PDT by BenLurkin

The Democrat doubled down on remarks he made last week defending his decision -- or lack thereof -- not to cancel February 25 Mardi Gras events. He conceded that the raucous partying scene "likely" contributed to the spread of the virus in the New Orleans area, where health experts now say the next coronavirus "hot spot" is emerging. Just one day prior to the city's Mardi Gras festivities, the president said "the coronavirus is very much under control" before going on to tout the day's stock market gains.

Speaking on several Sunday morning TV news programs, Bel Edwards tried to re-focus the conversation on the state's need for respirators and federal government supplies rather than rehashing the past. He warned Louisiana's largest city will run out of ventilators by April 4 and hospital beds by April 10.

But Bel Edwards did confirm Sunday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- and all other federal government agencies -- made no mention of scaling back Mardi Gras celebrations over coronavirus concerns.

I don’t know. Tucson Gem and Mineral Show happened at around the same time. We’re not blowing up. It’s luck of the draw in many cases.

Yo, if you can’t make that easy call, then you shouldn’t be in charge of anything.

Can’t this incompetent make a decision on his own without Washington telling him what to do?

Oh, Washington is telling them what to do, alright. That's where DNC Headquarters is located.

Probably a bunch of musicians that were going to appear canceled. That’s why we wound up canceling the festival of books. Half the authors canceled.

democratic elections don't guarantee perfect wisdom; in fact, you don't have to look much further than places like CA, Detriot (sic), or chicago to wonder if it works at all.

What if Trump has told the mayor to NOT cancel Mardi Gras.
Can you imagine how different the “press” would be reporting this story.
But the Mayor is a democrat, and apparently quite stupid, so it’s okay?

1. All emergency planning, preparation, and response begins at the local level, and expands outward as the need arises.

2. We do not live in a kingdom. The Feds do not rule us. This was a matter for local and state govt, n'est ce pas?

3. Citizen voters have a reasonable expectation that their elected representatives will make prudent and wise decisions to protect the general health and welfare.

4. The alleged governor is an horrific and conscience-lacking failure and an extraordinarily clumsy attempter at blame-shifting.

If people want to go, let them. Who are the nanny-staters to tell them they cannot?

People die from the flu but I don’t see these tyrants harping about the flu, or alcoholism, or anything else, but, boy, they sure are fired up about this virus. Seems the liberal gaslighting works well on the feeble minded.

“Is COMMON SENSE illegal in Louisiana???”

You don’t seem to have any to think we should shut this country down.

How is it common sense to destroy the village to save it? “We have bedbugs, BURN THE VILLAGE!!!”

Mardi Gras pulls in a lot of people from across the country - and not a small number from Europe. The international travel is probably the difference. Note that the big motorsports events - Indy, Sebring, Daytona, Le Mans - all pull large international crowds and are now postponed until late in the year.
