The New York Times published an op-ed Friday that blamed evangelical Christians for the coronavirus pandemic.
The argument, by journalist and author Katherine Stewart, is that because religious voters supported Trump, that means he governs without regard for science.
Stewart also claims that Republicans, more than Democrats, are likely to deny science.
In her op-ed, titled The Road to Coronavirus Hell Was Paved by Evangelicals, she writes:
Donald Trump rose to power with the determined assistance of a movement that denies science, bashes government and prioritized loyalty over professional expertise. In the current crisis, we are all reaping what that movement has sown.
At least since the 19th century, when the proslavery theologian Robert Lewis Dabney attacked the physical sciences as theories of unbelief, hostility to science has characterized the more extreme forms of religious nationalism in the United States.
She then goes on to provide several quotes from pastors who pushed back against the idea of closing their churches.

She’d attack Judaism, too. She’s a militant atheist, which is feeble as hell, an attempt to turn science into religion.
Really, religion and science are two entirely different world views, but they don’t necessarily contradict each other. Believing that you eat a piece of bread and a sip of wine and it’s transformed into your stomach into the flesh and blood of Jesus is irreconcilable with science, which is only able to acknowledge the physical world, and only able to consider empirical proof. But that is a limitation of science.
In a similar way, every Passover Jews leave the boundaries of Egyptian slavery, even if they live in Cedarhurst, NY, and are not slaves per se. It became a spiritual exodus, made possible by the physical exodus three thousand years ago. Try explaining that to a militant atheist, though. It’s like trying to explain love to a pocket calculator.
Leni
Like Josef Goebbels, she writes her lies.
Of course it’s something for the New York Times.
It’s so predictable.
That one is great
[she fits in then, the Democrats booed God and Israel]
I was thinking about that this morning
[Why is she attaching Christians?]
Because she’s a Democrat working for the New York Times.
;)
It’s what they sell.
These people are insane.
Just read part of her Twitter.
She’s an anti-Christian jihadist.
Ultimately, her war is with God. He will handle her.
She has picked a battle with the Lord and gone very public about it. Multiple times it appears.
2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 King James Version (KJV)
6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
[Ginning up leftist hate everywhere. Weimar Republic here we come and NYT and leftist media are the midwives.]
Unfortunately, that is correct.
100% all you said - I basically agree
[There is nothing rational about the Left except to foster hate.]
That is correct. This is Nazi-style propaganda. And I can tell you some of the damned Huff Po fools repeat these same things. Multiple, multiple times.
[ The New York Times is an American enemy ]
You are correct. They have proven it multiple times.
Their lies are unbelievable.
So the NYT is sowing panic over Corona and this is their latest talking point delivery to those they have frightened. They NYT is telling those panicked people whom to blame and where to vent their anger. NYT is trying to build a fear/blame foundation for civil unrest or at minimum, increased social division.
I actually find that it’s Democrats that break stay in place orders, they have a selfishness that is unmatched and more likely to not have empathy towards others and how their actions might affect people other than them.
I wouldn’t be surprised.
Perhaps not related to political ideology but there is a trend in my town that doesn’t make sense. Our primary, of two, grocery stores is restocked daily. I have been there twice in the last two weeks at about 1-2 PM and the shelves are empty of many types of items. IOWs to get anything you need to get there at 7:AM. Meaning that there must be a big rush in the early hours.
I will do without the things I can’t find rather than join crowds of people buying everything they can get their hands on. This in a tourist town which has closed the doors to tourism so people are buying many times the quantities of food that they normally do since fewer people are here to buy it.
Thanks! Now let’s ask this dunce when science says life begins. :)
