“ The FDA and CDC bureaucracy are not up to speed with the current crisis.”

So, stupidity, rather than malfeasance?

The Obama administration made a decision to not stockpile the bulk of PPE estimated to be needed in emergencies but to use vendor management.

This was done in the 2010’s under Assistent Secretary for Preparedness and Response (part of HHS) Nicole Lurie who was ASPR the entire Obama administration.

The former head of the CDC under Obama, who maintain and manage the strategic stockpile, was Tom Frieden who also would have been responsible for the decision to use vendor management rather than physical stockpiling.

I can't stand people who can't think outside the box.

If you need elastic cord, go to Joann Fabric and pick up some of these:

And if you're really in a pinch, try these:

Feds have 1.5 million expired N95 masks in storage despite CDC clearing them for use on COVID-19: report

Just a couple days ago, my company’s office in Korea offered to ship us 3,000,000 N95 masks, at cost, for use in one of our manufacturing plants to give our workers more confidence and protection and to keep them on the job. We also had the notion to donate some to our local school and hospital workers.

Korea (unlike the USA) apparently had the capacity to ramp up its production quickly.

But then I learned

1) the masks were certified CE (for use in EU nations) and not FDA certified, and

2) some hospital administrators we talked to said they wouldn’t touch these because of fears of breaking Fed.gov regulations and also fears of ambulance chaser liability if anyone got sick wearing one.

So I told my Korean colleagues - thank you, but I’m not getting involved in this mess…. Welcome to 21st century America.

Hundreds of thousands of CHINESE SPIES living in OUR country bought them up and SENT MOST OF THEM BACK TO CHINA! The Chinese living in America knew about a need for masks LONG BEFORE WE DID.

It’s the WEEKEND. What’s the hurry. The CDC and FDA will start looking at applications after finishing the celebrations of Black History Month (in June).

I tell you, people are just PANICKED. And for what, just the flu? Right Bro’s?

I read a diy online that instructed to use the material from furnace filters that are designed to remove allergens down to 0.03 microns. Obviously, it wouldn’t be one that has any fiberglass in it. Just cut out a rectangle of the filter material, then use some kind of thin metal to attach it to tighten around the bridge of your nose, and something to fasten it around your head. I don’t remember all the details, but I just googled (actually Bing) how to make an N95 face mask.

In situations like this I understand the appeal of a dictatorship. Nothing like a gun to the back of a head to get things done.

Don’t hospitals keep a stockpile of masks?
This is an embarrassment. We are like a third world nation.

How much perfectly useful equipment has been trashed because of an arbitrary expiration date demanded by dubious regulations.

The masks used in ceramic work have to be that good and certified. Silica getting into your lungs is like breathing broken glass.
