New Yorkers are staying put and apparently not committing nearly as many crimes, according to the official stats released Wednesday by the NYPD.
Citywide crime is down almost 17% compared to the same week last year, with dramatic drops in violent crime -- shootings down 23.5%, rapes down 69% and assaults down 9%.
Crime in the subway, which had grown significantly so far this year, was down 33% last week compared to the year before. Criminals are still stealing cars, as thefts were up 52% compared to the same week last year. That said, the recent trend had shown an increase of 75% for the past 28 days compared to last year, so even those numbers are a bit cooler.
Overall, crime had been on a sharp rise year to date compared to last year citywide, but the past week has seen a crash in the number of incidents.

Junkies can only go so long without a fix. There may be dip right now, but the spike is coming.
Agreed. No flights should be going in or out of NYC right now.
If we return to work too early and become like Italy the economy will crash anyway. I’ll take the scenario that doesn’t involve an overloaded heath system. Best to err on the side of caution.
Re “Because the victims are not out”! Yes, plus the weather (we’ve had a lot of cold rain in the DC area. Smart crooks stay inside where it is warm. They know their victims are still going to be around when it warms up).
However, I wonder about the lesser crimes that DeBlasio and this commie/criminal crowd don’t want prosecuted - re Metro rail crimes, minor drug possession, DUI, drunk in public, assaults, etc.
Successful therapy against Covid-19 virus from New York State:

To all medical professionals around the world:
My name is Dr. Zev Zelenko and I practice medicine in Monroe, NY. For the last 16 years, I have cared for approximately 75% of the adult population of Kiryas Joel, which is a very close knit community of approximately 35,000 people in which the infection spread rapidly and unchecked prior to the imposition of social distancing.
As of today my team has tested approximately 200 people from this community for Covid-19, and 65% of the results have been positive. If extrapolated to the entire community, that means more than 20,000 people are infected at the present time. Of this group, I estimate that there are 1500 patients who are in the high-risk category (i.e. >60, immunocompromised, comorbidities, etc).
Given the urgency of the situation, I developed the following treatment protocol in the pre-hospital setting and have seen only positive results:
1. Any patient with shortness of breath regardless of age is treated.
2. Any patient in the high-risk category even with just mild symptoms is treated.
3. Young, healthy and low risk patients even with symptoms are not treated (unless their circumstances change and they fall into category 1 or 2).
My out-patient treatment regimen is as follows:
1. Hydroxychloroquine 200mg twice a day for 5 days
2. Azithromycin 500mg once a day for 5 days
3. Zinc sulfate 220mg once a day for 5 days
The rationale for my treatment plan is as follows. I combined the data available from China and South Korea with the recent study published from France (sites available on request). We know that hydroxychloroquine helps Zinc enter the cell. We know that Zinc slows viral replication within the cell. Regarding the use of azithromycin, I postulate it prevents secondary bacterial infections. These three drugs are well known and usually well tolerated, hence the risk to the patient is low.
Since last Thursday, my team has treated approximately 350 patients in Kiryas Joel and another 150 patients in other areas of New York with the above regimen.
Of this group and the information provided to me by affiliated medical teams, we have had ZERO deaths, ZERO hospitalizations, and ZERO intubations. In addition, I have not heard of any negative side effects other than approximately 10% of patients with temporary nausea and diarrhea.
In sum, my urgent recommendation is to initiate treatment in the outpatient setting as soon as possible in accordance with the above. Based on my direct experience, it prevents acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), prevents the need for hospitalization and saves lives.
With much respect,
Dr. Zev Zelenko

You should be fine. I’ve read that in 98 percent of cases, symptoms start by the 12th day.
False choice.
The economy will crash harder if the disease is allowed to spiral out of control.
President Trump is making the correct decisions.
Yeah, there was a movie back in the 1970s... Escape From New York.
Perspective... More New Yorkers and Chicagoans die from gangland shootings, hospital errors, sepsis, drownings... than from the virus.
Didnt New York begin giving patients hydroxychloroquine on Tuesday? When will we start hearing of its effectiveness? Reports have shown almost complete recovery in 6 days...so shouldn’t there be signs of improvement before then - perhaps in 3-4 days? Shouldn’t we know something by Friday or Saturday?
This is beginning to trickle out; however, please note that according to this doctor’s protocol, treatment includes three items, not just the hydroxychloroquine.
Tthe zinc is important, and also note that he is dispensing this to patients before they become critical and need to be hospitalized.

“What is zinc and what does it do?
Zinc is a nutrient that people need to stay healthy. Zinc is found in cells throughout the body. It helps the immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses. The body also needs zinc to make proteins and DNA, the genetic material in all cells. During pregnancy, infancy, and childhood, the body needs zinc to grow and develop properly. Zinc also helps wounds heal and is important for proper senses of taste and smell.”
Life Extension Foundation used to sell sublingual zinc lozenges that would stop a cold in its tracks if used early enough. I found it very useful, but I imagine the taste put enough people off that it did not become mainstream.
Thanks, still feeling great today on my 13th day! I was never that worried but will be good to know for sure.
