Even a disease as far-reaching as the coronavirus hasnt entirely crossed the chasm between red and blue America.
In several key respects, the outbreaks early stages are unfolding very differently in Republican- and Democratic-leaning parts of the country. That disconnect is already shaping, even distorting, the nations response to this unprecedented challengeand it could determine the pandemics ultimate political consequences as well.
A flurry of new national polls released this week reveals that while anxiety about the disease is rising on both sides of the partisan divide, Democrats consistently express much more concern about it than Republicans do, and they are much more likely to say they have changed their personal behavior as a result. A similar gap separates people who live in large metropolitan centers, which have become the foundation of the Democratic electoral coalition, from those who live in the small towns and rural areas that are the modern bedrock of the GOP.
Government responses have followed these same tracks. With a few prominent exceptions, especially Ohio, states with Republican governors have been slower, or less likely, than those run by Democrats to impose restrictions on their residents. Until earlier this week, Donald Trump downplayed the diseases danger and overstated the extent to which the United States had control over it, as the conservative publication The Bulwark recently documented.
Conservative media figures including Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity likewise insisted for weeks that the media and Democrats were exaggerating the danger as a means of weakening Trump. Several Republican elected officials encouraged their constituents to visit bars and restaurants precisely when federal public-health officials were urging the opposite.

Sounds like that’s what they’re using. BTW I have one.
The Atlantic is an anti American rag. The magazine currently exists to destroy America.
Exactly.
Our county declared a SOE which placed the cops from three separate multiplicities under the Sheriff’s office.
Those city cops are now patrolling the rural areas and there’s a much higher LEO visibility. Along with that there seems to be a higher rate of traffic infractions being cited.
It’s like the county knows a lock-down is going to cause revenue to fall so their working overtime to fill the coffer as much as possible.
Have you looked at number of reported cases per capita?
I havent had time to do those calculations, but it could change some of the rankings.
Democrats are panicking nationwide because the big cities are their centers of power. Cities are how they collect their redistributed tax dollars from the federal government.
If the big cities lose their power politically through attrition and fear of death to the point where big city welfare queens won’t go out to vote Democrat, the democrats know they will lose the house and any remaining hope they have for gaining political power.
Their primary tools retaining power in the state, federal and local governments will be lost.
Cities are their “goose that lays the golden eggs” and without the goose they will not survive. Big cities are where democrats hide their voting fraud and corruption via ballot stuffing and voting dead people.
Cities are also where they hide millions of constituents otherwise known as illegal invaders.
Cities are their terrorist centers and are packed with legions of virulent and violent youth. Cities are how they manipulate numbers to control the nations largest electoral prizes.
These blue america communist enclaves will destroy themselves. Entrenched evil will slay the wicked.
Agreed. The flu is far more prevalent and statistically far more of a danger. I’m generally a fairly neat/circumspect guy, even more so during cold/flu season. I hate needles, so I’ve *never* gotten a flu shot. I haven’t had the flu in probably 20+ years. Literally cannot remember the last time, though I’m sure it was before we moved into our current place so that gives me a bound on it. Some decent precautions and discipline and we’ll be fine.
Yep, in another week or so..folks are going to get real tired of this nonsense.
In theory it sounded good..create a 2 week break and let the virus run its course.
The problem is people are handling the potentially nastiest germs each time they handle money.
Not to mention the 50-100 people all over the stores in close proximity is defeating the whole purpose for shutting down America.
Trump said no, each state should do what's right for their own situations.

Bill Krystol, the notoriously petulant Never Trumper, is the editor-in-chief of the Bulwark.
LOL, deomcrap Atlantic.
Nice but failed try.
Yup. All these red State govs see a quick easy way to condition the populace to government power and authority. It’s just the Commie way. These shutdowns are gonna kill a lot of small businesses though.
At least most of the blue States have been somewhat more reasonable, at least at the State level. Lord knows we’re still full of red cities, like Dallas shutting down all their restaurants...
That has got to be one of the funniest movie scenes in the history of hollywood!
I always lmao at that scene!
