The Trump administration, moving quickly to halt the spread of the coronavirus, is seriously considering grounding all passenger air traffic for up to 30 days, temporarily halting stock trading on Wall Street, and imposing a shelter-in-place rule, according to officials.
Key officials have begun alerting industry leaders, Capitol Hill, and agencies that the “radical” plan could come early next week if the warlike efforts to stop the spread of the virus fail.
On Thursday, the administration began to prepare the nation for 9/11-style moves when the State Department issued a “Level Four” warning against traveling overseas. The warning is the most severe that the department has.
In a notice, the State Department said Americans traveling abroad may find their travel “severely disrupted” and “may be forced to remain outside of the United States for an indefinite time frame.”

Thank you for correcting me. But,I stick by my 2nd post. I’d welcome the virus to get outta my marriage, or any other fatal disease, traffic accident, etc.

The worry is a having a huge bulge of people needing ventilators and intensive care all at the same time. That’s the recipe for deaths.
If the bulge can be spread out, “flattening the curve”, then there’s enough beds and medical personnel to handle the patient load.
The danger with the Covid virus is how fast it can spread. Its close cousin SARS only infected 8,800 hundred people total over maybe 10 months. This thing had infected 82,000 by March 1st. It’s 10 times as infectious.
Covid-19 is not as lethal as the 2003 SARS, but it can overwhelm medical systems with sheer numbers of patients needing hospital care all at the same time.

It shares 86% of the genome of the 2002-2003 SARS virus, which is now called SARS-CoV-1. Both of these viruses are very closely related to a coronavirus that infects bats.
If Covid is a bioweapon its greatest number of victims has been the people of Wuxan. There is a level 4 pathogen lab in Wuxan so it could have come from there. CDC virus hunters would love to get access to it but China won’t even let them into the country.

It’s not a bio-weapon. It’s a novel virus. China, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong & Singapore all stopped the virus by massive testing & quarantines.
It has been evident for 4+ weeks that this works. Europe & the US chose not to do this. That’s why the West is failing whereas the East succeeded.
No need to shut down the stock market. Many stocks trade in foreign markets, too, so this would just disadvantage American shareholders.
But movement can & should be restricted as a pandemic response measure to potentially save millions of Americans’ lives.

I read an article here a while back that said this particular Coronavirus had an intermediate segment that no other coronavirus had, and that this segment contained 4 additional amino acids that aided it in its infectious ability.

It does SEEM that the draconian measures work to stop the spread
