Why there will soon be tons of toilet paper, and what food may be scarce, according to supply chain experts

Stuck rationing toilet paper because you didn't stockpile during the coronavirus panic over the last few days? Don't worry, according to supply chain experts.

"All the grocery stores are going to have pallets of toilet paper sitting in the aisles and nobody is going to buy it because who needs to buy toilet paper when you got a year's worth sitting in your garage," Daniel Stanton, a supply chain expert and author of "Supply Chain Management for Dummies," tells CNBC Make It. But what about food? Even if the COVID-19 pandemic stretches over months (President Donald Trump said it could last until August), there will no big food shortages, especially on staples like milk, eggs, cheese, bread and meat, according to three supply chain experts who spoke to Make It.

Pretty much zero work, go up to the hen house once a day to collect the eggs, while there top off feed and water.

Change straw nesting material about once every two weeks, scrub down and sweep out chicken house about once a month (takes about 2 hours for a 2000 sq ft chicken house.

Use the chicken manure and old straw in garden (rototill in in late fall or very early spring), waste not want not.
If you don’t have a garden just pick a safe place to pile it up, add a little diesel fuel and burn it.

I’m retired now and don’t usually take any vacations but if you still do, just hire a local kid (one you trust) to do the chore list I just gave you.
Pay him/her about 2.50 to 5 dollars a day to take care of the birds, tell the kids mom or dad that all the eggs are free while you are gone (gives them some incentive to make sure the kid stays on the ball).

If your gone for say 14 days that is only 70 dollars if you pay the kid top dollar.
Make sure you critique the kids work when you get back.

You get your birds taken care of, the kid learns how to do a paying job, mom and dad get free eggs, WIN-WIN, whats not to like?

Thanks for the tip. We do pass through Utah from time to time, and would love to try a great local burger.

I am going to move, if necessary, so I can have a dog again.
I can’t live without a dog.

Really big chicken house with drop ramps to get outside, about 1.2 acres fenced in for them to roam about and eat grass and bugs, but they can still run into the house when the hawks, foxes, coyotes, bears, mountain lions, and bobcats are about.
Drop the ramps in the morning and close them up at night.

Don’t know if that qualifies as “free range” or not, don’t really care, they are just chickens after all.
Take just as good care of them as the rest of the livestock, feed water, medications when necessary and a safe place to sleep.
Only Clarabelle gets better attention besides my dogs.
My dogs come in the house at night and Clarabelle has the whole barn to herself.

When there was first a hint of what was to come, I bought more pasta and sauce than usual. I didn’t wipe out the aisle or anything, but it seems like a good, easy food to have on hand.

Those things do the opposite of the runs...for me at least.

I hear they like to eat deer ticks, which would make them well worth it in NH.

Some folks down the road from our new place have chickens. Maybe I could get some chicks from them and trade chores.

I’d have to agree with you; from what I’ve read.

A years supply seems like a lot to have to worry about and cycle thru to avoid wasting your money.

...but I have a few older hens that aren’t as productive as they used to be.

This seems to be a factor with humans; too.

She must have read my mind this afternoon; for the stuff we ate tonight had few leftovers in it.

There was a small paper plate of dressing material that was on the chicken breasts.

The cats seemed to like it ;^)

Now that two of my goats have died, the food I can set out for the two left will sustain them for two weeks.

A 40 gallon tub of water, a bale of alfalfa, and a self feeding pellet dispenser will keep them just fine.

The barn cars may get hungry if the raccoons get in their dispenser; but they can catch their own food easily.

Stay at the Kokopelli Inn for an older style experience
or at the Desert Rose for a much newer one.
