Recent guidelines from South Korea and China report that chloroquine is an effective antiviral therapeutic treatment against Coronavirus Disease 2019. Use of chloroquine (tablets) is showing favorable outcomes in humans infected with Coronavirus including faster time to recovery and shorter hospital stay. US CDC research shows that chloroquine also has strong potential as a prophylactic (preventative) measure against coronavirus in the lab, while we wait for a vaccine to be developed. Chloroquine is an inexpensive, globally available drug that has been in widespread human use since 1945 against malaria, autoimmune and various other conditions. ...

According to their research (reported in Clinical Trials Arena),

“Data from the drug’s [chloroquine] studies showed ‘certain curative effect’ with ‘fairly good efficacy’ … patients treated with chloroquine demonstrated a better drop in fever, improvement of lung CT images, and required a shorter time to recover compared to parallel groups. The percentage of patients with negative viral nucleic acid tests was also higher with the anti-malarial drug… Chloroquine has so far shown no obvious serious adverse reactions in more than 100 participants in the trials… Chloroquine was selected after several screening rounds of thousands of existing drugs. Chloroquine is undergoing further trials in more than ten hospitals in Beijing, Guangdong province and Hunnan province.”[6]

Gonna be fun times. Rarely this drug can cause people to have serious psychotic episodes and do really bizarre things. There’s gonna be some interesting stories come out of this.

If we got back to our regular lives the MSM and Democrats would lose this opportunity to try and destroy Trump. Their other attempts haven’t worked. Neither will this one.

My thoughts are similar as well, based on the doctors assessment of other conditions, give it to them and see if it makes any improvements. If it does with no bad side effects in most cases it can be an easy treatment for people who have coronavirus.

Even if this, or something else was a cure for Coronavirus, the media and the Left would never allow it to stand unchallenged!

You folks really believe the Media’s going to let Coronavirus go because of some treatment or cure? The doom and gloom, and hysteria are only going to ramp up! They are on track to collapse the economy and restore Dems to power! Coronavirus is the best friend the Left ever had!

How about a good old-fashioned gin-and-tonic, with real quinine?

Interesting nugget from the link:

As of February 26, 2020, the UK government has added chloroquine to the list of medicines that cannot be parallel exported from the UK. Chloroquine was never on this list before. This likely happened because of the growing body of evidence of chloroquine’s effectiveness against coronavirus.

I have a prescription for hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) for my rheumatoid arthritis, but I use very little of it because I'm more or less in remission (for now) haven't needed it.

It has the advantage of being fairly common, safe, and cheap.

According to very recent research sources quoted by Wikipedia

Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine have been recommended by Chinese and South Korean health authorities for the treatment COVID-19.[11] [12] In vitro studies have demonstrated that hydroxychloroquine is more potent than chloroquine against SARS-CoV-2 with a more tolerable safety profile.[13]

On 16 March 2020, advisor to the French Government on COVID-19, Professor Didier Raoult, announced that a trial involving 24 patients from the south east of France supported the claim that hydroxychloroquine was an effective treatment for COVID-19.[14] [15]

An amount of 600 mg of hydroxychloroquine (brand name Plaquenil) was administered to these patients every day for 10 days. The drug appeared to be responsible for a "rapid and effective speeding up of their healing process, and a sharp decrease in the amount of time they remained contagious".[16]

On March 17 after testing in several hospitals around Italy the Italian Pharmaceutical Agency has included hydroxychloroquine in the list of drugs with positive preliminary results for treatment of coronavirus disease 2019.[17]

“Rarely this drug can cause people to have serious psychotic episodes and do really bizarre things. There’s gonna be some interesting stories come out of this.”

The key word in your statement is “rarely”. Quinine and it’s prescription pharmaceuticals (chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine) have been used effectively for decades with minimal adverse side effects.

It is always a risk benefit decision with any drug but if it is indeed effective against Covid19 it’s a no-brainer to make use of it liberally.

When you give a drug to hundreds of thousands of people “rarely” happens a little more often.

I’ve heard that dosage has a lot to do with side effects. Gotta strike a balance.
