Amazon suspends shipments of non-essential products to warehouses amid coronavirus-driven shortages

Amazon is banning sellers from shipping any non-essential items to its warehouses as it grapples with overwhelming demand for basic staple items as the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow.

The Seattle-based e-tailing giant sent an email to sellers Tuesday announcing that it would only be accepting “household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products” for the next three weeks so that it can “more quickly receive, restock, and deliver” the products to customers.

“We are seeing increased online shopping, and as a result some products such as household staples and medical supplies are out of stock,” Amazon told sellers, according to an email obtained by NBC.

Sellers who use the Fulfillment by Amazon program normally send their goods to Amazon’s warehouses, which store and deliver the products for a fee.

Health models are showing a peak number of infections being obtain in early June. We are just on the outer edge of really bad.

Obviously the government had no real contingency plan for stopping a global epidemic, even though many in the medical community considered it as likely as a major earthquake.

The best solution would have been to stop all travel from China and other infected areas. Followed by sealing the boarders. Now we will have to deal with this consequence including having illegals plugging up the health services. I am mad as hell about this! Our hospitals are world class in dealing with many infectious diseases, but they are not equipped to handle a pandemic.

Meanwhile, I hear Morans like Hannity (who has a 9th grade education) and others from our side say that this is all a hoax, or its no worse than the common cold, or its not really that infectious. Look at the data. Go to the international press sites in Europe to see whats coming our way in the next two weeks. In Italy, hospitals are flooded and doctors and nurses are AWOL, sick, or otherwise. I believe this happened in China as well.

Those other countries, Israel, India, etc get their reactants and API’s from China.

India has stopped exporting ‘strategic’ drugs to anyone else.

We clearly don’t make enough supplies or they wouldn’t be asking construction workers to donate their masks to medical workers.

China is in the supply chain, initially, for nearly every antibiotic produced anywhere on the planet.

Half baked articles that claim otherwise based on intermediate/finished products coming from elsewhere don’t impress me. Sry.

https://globalnews.ca/news/6570411/covid-19-drug-shortage-worry-canada/

““China produces 80 per cent of the world’s supply of active pharmaceutical ingredient. Those are the parts of the pills that actually do something.””

When it comes down to brass tacks...and the medical supplies for their own people, whose side do you think our ‘allies’ would be on?

If someone is running up charges on their credit cards, because they have have been laid off due to the corona virus, the odds of them being able to pay them off every month are slim.

Bezos is just reacting to the demand curve while having the resources to take advantage of that demand (Focusing on short-run decisions by the consumer), he didn’t become a billionaire many times over by being stupid.

“I can’t believe this is really happening.”

I forget the name, but this describes it. Many people have plans (home defense, military, etc...), but they when the time comes, they hesitate to implement it, because: I can’t believe this is really happening.

Yes. That was my moment of awareness When Bush Sr. Said “if we don’t trade with them someone else will.” To me it sounded like the rationale of drug dealers.

On cardboard 3 days infectious survivability, plastics up to 9 days. Best idea put the packages in the garage for 10 days then unpack and spray with 1000ppm hydrochloride

?

"We found that viable virus could be detected in aerosols up to 3 hours post aerosolization, up to 4 hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to 2-3 days on plastic and stainless steel."

So are all of the chest and upright freezers in my area - Albany NY - until May, at least.

What happened to the quality of Kenmore stuff?

I got a chest freezer ~13 years ago or so. Runs great.

But the top paint started to chip off about three years after I got it! All the paint is gone on the lid and there's some rust. Looks awful. Runs great.

If they waited until this happened to realize that keeping some extra supplies on hand was a good idea, they’ll wait until they have a power outage and a freezer full of ruined food to realize that possibility needs to be considered.

The one time my power was out for 24 hours (a truck hit a pole with a transformer on it) I was blessed- it was late spring and the temperature was pretty neutral. I didn’t open my freezer at all and lost nothing.
