Joe Biden announced Sunday that if he wins the Democratic presidential nomination, he’ll choose a woman as his running mate.
The former vice president committed for the first time to pick a female running mate during the Democratic primary debate Sunday night.
"I would pick a woman to be my vice president," Biden said, while also committing to appoint the first black woman to the Supreme Court.
"My running mate will be a woman," his campaign tweeted moments afterward.
Prior to the debate, Biden had said that he would consider choosing a woman to serve as the vice presidential nominee.

Biden’s rival for the nomination – Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont – wouldn’t firmly commit to naming a female as his vice presidential nominee.
Asked by the debate moderators if he’d also choose a woman as his running mate, Sanders answered: “In all likelihood, I will.”
After Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts – the last major female Democratic presidential candidate – dropped out of the race earlier this month, there’s been a rising chorus of calls that either Biden or Sanders name a woman as their running mate.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii remains in the race, but has no realistic chance of winning the nomination.

A Real Woman, or somebody who ‘identifies as’ woman?
Nowadays, you have to ask.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for women, but to pick a running mate based purely on their gender is sexist. Picking a Supreme Court justice based purely on their skin color is racist. Joe Biden is just proving he is a sexist and racist.
Not a very exciting debate; we were expecting one or both to keel over.

He will pick Harris. She’s an Obama pet, and in exchange, they will come out and campaign for them. He will also agree to “resign” for “health issues” after a reasonable period.
This worked out so well for Fritz Mondale in 1984 when he caved to demands for a female running mate and picked someone no one would have considered for President on her own.
Actually Biden does have some vaguely plausible options (at least not less qualified than himself) but ruling out half the population (and more than half the people with proper experience) just to pander is a sign of weakness.

Kamala is so unlikable that she would hurt the ticket when people think that it is a real possibility that Biden might not survive 4 years. The governor of New Mexico has been mentioned—probably a safer pick. She is Hispanic from a family that has been in New Mexico for many generations, not an anchor baby.
Tammy Duckworth is a double amputee military vet. Such a nominee undercuts the democrat hatred of the service and clicks off two extra hyphen groups. Even though she was born in Thailand to a Thai mother, her US father’s citizenship will be all she needs for the enemedia to rescue her by accusing doubters as “Birchers.”
