Thursday night Seema Verma, one of the top members of the White House coronavirus task force and the current head of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, repeatedly dodged when Fox News Martha MacCallum grilled her over possible ventilator shortages.
Tucker Carlson was so stunned by that exchange he invited Verma on his show Friday night and opened by saying, I watched that exchange last night, and I must be honest with you, I was really troubled by it. Because you were asked a direct question by Martha MacCallum, do we have enough ventilators in ICU units, and you appeared to intentionally not answer it, so Im going to ask you that question again and hope that we will be reassured by the answer. Do we have enough ventilators to treat a surge in cases coronavirus right now, do you believe?
We have stockpile of ventilators. So right now today we are able to address people that need ventilators, Verma said. Our strategy though is to not make the situation worse, but there is a stockpile of ventilators. The president talked about ventilators today and said were going to purchase more to make sure that we have that backup supply.
Carlson pressed on specifics, asking, Can you put some meat on those bones and give us a sense of how many ventilators are in place? How many are in the stockpile? How many do you think we will need?

And when Tom Hanks is completely well by next Wednesday he owes it to his country to go livestream and/or accept an interview, and demonstrate his complete recovery from coronavirus.
It’s not possible to have enough ventilators if this thing goes hyperbolic. Hell we won’t even have enough beds, this is pure gotcha.
Sounds a bit like she was dodging in anticipation of the Friday afternoon presser that would place everything in context.
Let’s spend next week hyperventilating over ventilator shortages.
The “wash your hands” hysteria has pretty much run its course.
THANK YOU MC GAVIN FOR A SPOT OF COMMON SENSE.
These Gotcha hounds, whose sole purpose in life is to embarrass and be contrary, is getting tiresome.
Like those freaks at the President’s statement.
WHAT IS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED BY GUESSING HOW MUCH WE NEED OF AN ITEM???? WILL IT MAKE US HEALTHIER? WILL IT REDUCE THE ALREADY LOW FATALITIES.
Is the woman supposed to be a California psychic.
CALM DOWN, FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE.
“””exactly- saw the show- Tuckers next guest was appalled by her evasive non answers-”””
I also saw the show and my initial thought was that Seema Verna was an Obama holdover. But in checking, I find that Trump appointed Verma to head CMS in 2017.
I suspect the bureaucrats within our various Federal Health Agencies are doing all they can to thwart Trump and that is why Trump turned to the private sector health companies to take over the management of the COVID crisis.
DRAIN THE SWAMP!!!!!!
“””””She was nominated for her position by the Obama Administration but not confirmed by the Senate until March 2017 after Trump took office. Id keep a careful eye on this one for the possibilities of SUBTLE SABOTAGE.””””
I do not believe that is true. From Wikipedia-—
“””On November 29, 2016, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Verma to serve as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the agency that oversees Medicare, Medicaid, and the insurance markets””””
I bet she knows how many pole dancing poles are in the city though.
You go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time. Donald Rumsfeld
Rumsfeld (back at the time) on our insufficiency of body armor going into the Iraq invasion. Of course, to me, it rang very hollow when at the same time he did not have the manufacturing plants working around the clock to produce more.
Tucker has become a screaming woman over this flu.
I posted yesterday about the likelihood of “being ready” for a pandemic of any kind. The same can be said for “having enough” of ______________ (fill in the blank):
Lets just stop for a second...In the town where you (Mr. and Mrs. America) live, is your local hospital ready to handle an influx of emergency patients if that influx was approximately 1/10th of your municipalitys population? 1/20th? 1/100th?
In the town where I live (in northern NC) there are, say, about 15,000 people. 1/10th of that population is 1500 people. 1/20th of that population is 750 people. 1/100th of that population is 150 people. The little local hospital in my area has approximately 40 beds, 80 if they open up an up till now unused floor.
Question: What place on earth is ready for a pandemic of such magnitude?
Dont forget that many of the existing ICU beds and ventilator are not just sitting there waiting for a corona surge. Many, in some hospitals most, are in use for non-corona patients.
The guest mentioned the national stockpile of medical stuff run by a government industry called ASPR.
he is quite the crepe hanger i noticed the last few weeks...everythings the end of the world. Hes also one of these income inequality nuts too...
Thats gossip. And if Tucker and Martha bothered to listen to the Presidents address he clearly stated that ventilatiors were on order. And lets be clear, we could have a ventilator for each and every person in this country, but what if there is no electricity to run them? What if we have lots of ventilators but no repair parts, what if.....what if.....what if?
People are acting like morons. We are weakening our immune system with all this worry. We will survive, we are smart enough to wash our hands, take care of each other, and come out the other side of this just fine.
To much panic
Production lines lines are churning out enough units to satisfy last months demand.
Can you create a new production line, and train workers, by Monday? No
Can you get all of the raw material and components by Monday? No
My guess, since December 1 2019, many millions of people have/had the virus.
Their normal to robust immune system fought off the virus.
For the time being use Zoom or skype
Back when FR members were lighting me up for being an alarmist, I posted a 2007 study and we had 62,000 ventilators. Some estimate that might be 100,000 now and could be older ones thatd be functional.
Slowing the spread it key.
Takes on average 18 days on the ventilator.
Patients still shed the virus two weeks after symptoms end.
Can incubate up to 24 days.
Counting spreads it up to 14 feet and it lingers in the air up to 30 minutes.
Herd immunity is where we are heading. Enough people get it and itll die out.
Key is it doesnt mutate. First wave of Spanish flu killed off the elderly and infirm. The second wave killed everyone.
Would be nice if the folks here who insulting people sharing facts would apologize for insulting us.
Good example of Normalcy Bias. People falsely assume things as they are will continue to go on as they are. Rush fell prey to it the part few weeks.
Whats a ventilator? How is it different from an air conditioner? Are they heavy? Can anyone install one?
It's a complex device that assists in patients breathing...
Agreed.
We need to make our stuff here.
Only use other countries to maintain competitive pressure on American companies.
