No, it really doesn’t fit here. And Pence doesn’t open his mouth without first gushing and gushing about Trump. It doesn’t reflect well on either Pence or Trump. It grates.
It's cloying pap, and make me highly distrustful of Pence. On the practical side, it is a waste of time.
Some people have a lower tolerance for stuff like that. Personally, it doesn't bother me. It's nice seeing mutual support between the President and Vice-President, and it's a way to get the accomplishments of each one out to the public when delivered in this setting, where a large amount of the population is listening.
