Bloomberg is LINK ONLY...
It also is necessary to hopefully calm the markets, and keep infrastructure from falling apart. People have to calm the f down.
You know, isn’t possible that it could be about more than ONE thing?
We all sound really stupid here - trying to pontificate about one thing or the other. As if it were a zero sum game. People are sick. It’s EASILY spread.
Supply Chain disruptions are a real issue. The economy will take a hit from the lack of sports. Those that make their living around arenas are going to feel REAL PAIN. Not to mention the bars, restaurants, sports pundits, apparel, hotels etc... TRICKLE DOWN
Don’t make the mistake of thinking this isn’t serious simply because thousands aren’t dying. It makes you sound like a meat head.
A perfect end run around the Pelosi maneuvers to screw the Trump administration in the House by attaching ideological permanent pork to the CORONAvirus Bill ( such as 1 billion for Planned Parenthood abortions) which they do before recessing and going home.
Trump will likely veto, declare National emergency and tell Pelosi to go eff herself.
You can’t say that President Trump didn’t try the right way first though.
That’s my concern.
Wuhan Virus.... The Perfect Storm..
Please notice that there have been no mass shootings, no Russian interference, no impeachment inquiries.... This is their grand slam attempt.
What happens if all people in America, or the world, suddenly stop doing everything they used to do every day, because they are terrified to leave their house?
Trump should be very clear. That would be considered an act of war. Period
National Emergency? How will the “nothing burger” crowd deal with this cognitive dissonance?
Who in their right mind would want to turn this kind of responsibility over to a bumbling idiot that does not know what day it is or, a goofball who has never done anything but name a post office?
Update: They say Brazil President tested negative.
A ton of emergency processes cannot take effect until there is an Emergency.
Most Americans dont realize the US government has been operating in an almost constant state of emergency since WWI.
It allows bureaucracy to be bypassed and for FEMA staging to take place. It would allow the FEMA warehouses to be opened and supplies deployed closer to the places that could be problematic.
On a state and local level it allows the seal on the emergency prep supplies to be broken and materials, processes, and expense budgets to be freed up.
It is a technical step. I should presented and regarded as such.
This is little different than preparing for, or reacting to a wide spread natural disaster.
Te step that would actually raise an eyebrow would be the activation of the Medical Corps and Civil Affiars elements of the Reserves. (Not the NG, not the 101st....) but the folks in San Antonio and other places.
Just some thoughts. Not any reason to panic.
Simple, manufacture here now.
This Emergency is a preventive measure.... Need to protect our Health care facilities from being overwhelmed. Guidelines on travel and closing of events lessens the spread, means fewer people infected.
The Hype is going to hype regardless mainly because people are looking at who has it and where rather than what has actually been prevented that could not have otherwise been without the measures taken so far.
This national emergency will give Trump authority beyond what he has otherwise currently, to do things that need to be done. All in all it’s a good thing.
Added note: People are not staying home if sick...I saw two people clearly ill the other day with colds and sneezing without covering their mouths.
I retired last year, though I won't need to touch my portfolio to any significant degree for some years. But there are people whose livelihoods and life's savings are being severely injured over this nonsense.
It is really no different than pre-positioning supplies before a Cat 5 hurricane. Not a nothingburger, but a prudent and essential move.
This should make people feel positive. Not scared.
This is a good move for Trump to take. It means someone on his staff has read the plan.
I do not think this is a nothing burger. I also do not think the panic we are seeing is justified or helpful. I make the same assessment I have all along. The virus will be what it will be and there is nothing we can do to stop it. The panic and hysteria however is and will cause greater damage that the virus.
Not just ChiComs...Germany has banned all exports of medical supplies to anywhere outside their country.
Social media turns people into lemmings.
Somebody hoarding toilet paper? Everybody starts hording toilet paper.
NBA shuts down? All sports shut down.
A university closes? All universities close.
Agree with all that.
