A resurgent Joe Biden scored victories from Texas to Massachusetts on Super Tuesday, revitalizing a presidential bid that was teetering on the edge of disaster just days earlier. But his rival, Bernie Sanders, seized the biggest prize with a win in California that ensured he and his embrace of democratic socialism would drive the Democrats nomination fight for the foreseeable future.
The former vice president showed strength in the Northeast with a victory in Massachusetts. He won delegate-rich Texas in the Southwest, Minnesota in the upper Midwest and finished on top across the South in Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, Tennessee and Arkansas in addition to Oklahoma.
Sanders opened the night as the undisputed Democratic front-runner and was in a position to claim an insurmountable delegate lead. And while he scored the nights biggest delegate-prize in California, he scored just three other decisive victories, winning his home state of Vermont, along with Utah and Colorado.
The other two high-profile candidates still in the shrinking Democratic field, New York billionaire Mike Bloomberg and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, were teetering on the edge of viability. Warren finished in an embarrassing third place in her home state, and Bloomberg planned to reassess his candidacy on Wednesday after spending more than a half billion dollars to score a single victory in American Samoa.
With votes still being counted across the country, The Associated Press has allocated 438 to Biden, 369 delegates to Sanders, 45 to Warren, 39 to Bloomberg and one for Rep. Tulsi Gabbard. The numbers are expected to shift dramatically throughout the night as new states, none bigger than California, report their numbers and as some candidates hover around the 15% vote threshold they must hit to earn delegates.

I was expecting that Biden’s numbers would rise as the lesser rans dropped out. Bernie is keeping his support levels but he can get no more. The lesser rans dropped out so their supporters chose to pool their votes with Biden. That is all that is happening. I think Bernie takes New York state but the proportional voting systems will dampen the numbers. Bloomberg may drop out and NYC is more Socialist than moderate, so I don’t think Biden is helped. Bittigiegs voters will go Biden I think and Warren’s voters will split if she drops. I think NY state is Bernie’s to lose. Biden takes Pa,Del,RI, but NJ may go Bernie but barely. I think Bernie takes Washington state and Oregon. Illinois I have no sense about.
I think the Dems will find out that it will be Biden and Bernie having to be stuck together as being the best outcome of a bad situation. The party needs the black supporters of Biden and they need the young and Mexicali Hispanic voters that support Bernie(Bernie is dead to the Cubans in Florida and I think Biden takes Florida). Single white dem women voters and soccer moms get stuck at the altar again with no chance to vote for a woman president again this cycle. They’ll split with the moms going for Biden and the younger women for Bernie...there-fore the Dems will have further reason to keep Biden and Bernie together.
Now my out of “left field” scenario:
Should Biden win as Prez and Bernie as VP, Biden will more than likely be 25th amendmented out within a year. The Sociopaths in the dem leadership know this and are planning for it already. Then, they can slip radical Bernie who will have to “choose a VP” who will be younger and very much to the hierarchy’s liking. Then, perhaps due to strain on his heart or signs that his mental acuity is failing, they will try to retire Bernie early like they did Bernie. In slips the radical candidate no one would ever vote for who will try to take out America as we know it!
It is clear that the DNC is frightened of a party takeover by Bernie.
Bernie will clean house and sweep away most of the corruption, graft and greed by former Clinton/Obama loyalists.
Well, those loyalists are fighting back for their ability to continue to extract money for favors from companies.
Sanders would just nationalize those companies and believes taking corporate money is wrong.
This is a fight for who will run the DNC and my money is on the Clinton/Obama wing.
What we are seeing, for the umpteenth time, is the Democrats' much higher degree of party discipline. They have exactly the same situation as did the Republicans in 2016: so many candidates that the field was hopelessly split, creating room for an unlikely insurgency. Had the Republican field acted rationally in 2016, it would have been a three, perhaps four, person race after South Carolina, and a two person race shortly thereafter. That would probably have produced Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio as the nominee. But Jeb Bush and, in the end, John Kasich ensured that would not happen, and that the non-Trump vote remained split. The Democrats aren't going to let that happen. They are going to clear the field for whoever has the best chance to stop Bernie. That now looks like Biden, a sad sack of a candidate, but at least not a raving communist.
Biden will be very dangerous in the general election. Yes, he's rapidly slipping mentally and he's corrupt. But the media will play coverup. The coverage will be a 24/7 hate on Donald Trump. Biden himself will be kept mostly under wraps. He will be handled with kid gloves and rolled out for the bare minimum of public appearances. The voters will not see Joe Biden in the flesh; they will see the Super Bowl ad version of Joe Biden. My guess is that there will not be a debate.
The other crazy fact from the numbers is how much higher Republican turnout was. Here in my county of Colorado, Trump received about 10,000 more votes than all the Dims put together. He got 40,000 more than Biden, the winner, did.
” . . . hard-core Democrats who would vote for Satan before Trump”
Yeah, but don’t discount her entering the race at the last minute assuming she’s able to stumble out of Chautauqua, should Biden’s mental deterioration hit critical mass by convention time.
I don’t think the Bernie kids had as many numbers as a function of percentages in the states that were contested yesterday as they do in states coming up. Colorado and California and Vermont went for Bernie. Not a surprise.
We still have NY, Hawaii, Washington and Oregon who may go Bernie. In fact there are still 34 states and DC left to vote, many who are still friendly to Bernie. Florida is lost to Bernie due to his Pro Cuban sentiments.
Some freepers were suggesting vote manipulation was causing Bernie to lose. Some of that might be true but consider that a few also rans dropped out from last week and after the SC primary.
The potential voters(like those for Buttigieg)for the also rans simply switched their votes for Biden. Bernie’s 30 to 40 percent support nationally in the Dem primary might just be his high water mark and he can’t get higher than that. How ever if Warren and Bloomberg decide to jump out, that’s it, Biden will siphon up their voters and then Biden’s 25 to 35 percent becomes 60 percent to Bernie’s 40 per cent. Bernie wins NY I think and some smaller states but it won’t make difference. It will make a difference how ever who gets to be VP and Bernie’s rowdies are sure to make a ruckus. Bernie may take the entire Pacific coast and New Mexico.(Bernie advertises in Spanish to Hispanics and some are on record as saying they voted for Bernie because he was the only politician reaching out to them in their language).
Why the President would ever agree to go on one of these media smear jobs disguised as a”debate” is beyond me.
He should invite Joe to a stadium and have a real debate in front of
real voters.
“I just wonder how many days in advance will Biden get the questions.”
It better not be to many days in advance because he won’t remember them.
Beside Biden just makes junk up and takes credit for what other people do...and the mods won’t call him on it.
Bernard beat himself up. Was a gift when he praised “Cuber’s” Castro.
That’s a good point. California was a big win. I was hoping that some finally realized what socialism/communism really is. I agree that he will take the west coast and prolly Hawaii. NY? I’m not sure, but then AOC was elected, so who knows.
Biden will get Obama’s endorsement. Maybe this week.
GOP Senators like Graham will be vouching for Biden, too.
Biden will withdraw just before the convention due to health reasons.
Hillary didn’t withdraw because of health. Biden won’t, either.
Dr Jill was the driving force for Biden to run again.
She and his Chief of Staff would run everything
While Joe takes a nap
Dems need Bernie voters in the fall or they have no chance. They couldnt afford the appearance of it being stolen from Bernie at the convention, so they mustered forces now in hopes that a legitimate loss would be less offensive to Bernie bots.
Now Dems are stuck with the gaffer. Come on man, that constitutional thing, fatty, Ill take you out behind the school and have a push-up contest with my double barrel shotgun....
By the way, wheres Hunter?
Trump lead the GOP primary wire to wire. Wiped the floor with Little Marco in his own state. Wouldn’t have mattered a bit if the other candidates had dropped out. Trump was always going to be the nom because the GOP base rejected GOPe on policy grounds and disliked their subservience to Obama.
Burn couldn’t beat Biden in MA. Hard to see him winning NY given that.
Could we be looking at a no debate scenario? Joe could simply say he is not going to give Trump a platform to spread more lies, or malarkey.
Joe may be slipping mentally, but he could possibly remember to stay on that script.
Yep. Joe is just the puppet. The idea is going to withdraw or there will be a brokered convention is a fantasy. Dems will rally around a candidate. Probably by the end of this month.
The Democrats appear to be poised to nominate a man who is clearly suffering from early stage dementia and has serious liabilities on the Ukraine front.
That’s breathtaking.
