~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Travis Air Force Base, California

CAtravis6

Travis Air Force Base is a United States Air Force air base under the operational control of the Air Mobility Command (AMC), located three miles east of the central business district of Fairfield, in Solano County, California, United States.

Situated at the southwestern edge of the Sacramento Valley and known as the "Gateway to the Pacific," Travis Air Force Base handles more cargo and passenger traffic through its airport than any other military air terminal in the United States. The base has a long and proud history of supporting humanitarian airlift operations at home and around the world. Today, Travis AFB includes approximately 7,260 active USAF military personnel, 4,250 Air Force Reserve personnel and 3,770 civilians.

The base's host unit, the 60th Air Mobility Wing, is the largest wing in the Air Force's Air Mobility Command, with a versatile fleet of 26 C-5 Galaxies, 27 KC-10 Extenders, and 13 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.

In addition, the base's former Strategic Air Command Alert Facility is now a U.S. Navy complex that typically supports two transient Navy E-6B Mercury TACAMO aircraft assigned to Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron THREE (VQ-3) Detachment and normally home-based at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.

The largest squadron within the 60th Medical Group, the 60th Medical Operations Squadron maintains worldwide contingency medical readiness for three Wings with 405 authorized personnel supporting a $310.5 million total annual medical expense. 60 MDOS provides quality health care to more than 500,000 Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs personnel.

CAtravis2

The 9th Air Refueling Squadron mobilizes and deploys 12 KC-10 aircraft with over 140 combat-ready personnel and equipment to worldwide forward operating locations. Ensures global reach for America by generating 24-hour-a-day strategic airlift and aerial-refueling sorties supporting U.S. and allied forces during contingency operations.

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

March 3

Fully Known

Bible in a Year:

Before I formed you . . . I knew you.

Jeremiah 1:5 “You shouldn’t be here right now. Someone up there was looking out for you,” the tow truck driver told my mother after he had pulled her car from the edge of a steep mountain ravine and studied the tire tracks leading up to the wreck. Mom was pregnant with me at the time. As I grew, she often recounted the story of how God saved both our lives that day, and she assured me that God valued me even before I was born.

None of us escape our omniscient (all-knowing) Creator’s notice. More than 2,500 years ago He told the prophet Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5). God knows us more intimately than any person ever could and is able to give our lives purpose and meaning unlike any other. He not only formed us through His wisdom and power, but He also sustains every moment of our existence—including the personal details that occur every moment without our awareness: from the beating of our hearts to the intricate functioning of our brains. Reflecting on how our heavenly Father holds together every aspect of our existence, David exclaimed, “How precious to me are your thoughts, God!” (Psalm 139:17).

God is closer to us than our last breath. He made us, knows us, and loves us, and He’s ever worthy of our worship and praise.

By:  James Banks

Reflect & Pray

For what aspect of God’s care would you like to praise Him this moment? How can you encourage someone with the thought that He cares for them today?

You’re amazing, God! Thank You for holding me up and getting me through every moment of the day.

When I was a kid, Travis was a SAC base. I remember the watching a B-52 taking off, and marveling at how the wingtips initially drooped, then flexed as the bomber increased speed on the runway. I also remember asking why the Hawk missile batteries belonged to the U.S. Army.

Howdy, PRO.

I posted a couple of pix last night from the museum but I was apparently too late to catch you still awake. They’re in your pings list if you haven’t gone back through them today.

Hiya radu!

I did see the pix you posted last night, thanks.

Looks like activities at the museum are getting busy.

Son's over for dinner so I'll be back later.

Great road...er, air....trip to Travis AFB. I flew near it [but not too close because of closed airspace] in a helicopter 🚁 with my son as the pilot. Great vantage point.
