Secret FISA court's future in jeopardy, lawmakers say
Just the News ^ | February 29, 2020 - 12:39pm | Sharyl Attkisson

Amid scandal and abuse, reforming the FISA surveillance system will not be easy. But without systemic reform, the secret court at the heart of the government’s surveillance authority may not even survive.

“I don’t even give [the secret FISA Court] a 50-50 chance” of survival in its present form, Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) told Just The News.

Many Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill now say they are in agreement that something transformative must be done to fix shortcomings in the programs that allow government spying on U.S. citizens. But agreement on details is proving elusive.(I discuss why fixing FISA is so hard with a former National Security Agency "secret squirrel" on the latest episode of The Sharyl Attkisson Podcast

Add to the mix that Trump Attorney General William Barr is pressing Congress to authorize an extension of the government’s authority just as it is without reforms.

The office of Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) told Just The News that Wyden “has long fought for fundamental reforms to surveillance programs to better protect Americans’ rights. [Wyden] believes there should be more transparency … and better protections for due process.”

Rep. Perry says he is among a significant group in Congress that favors eliminating the FISA court altogether

“There’s nothing that can be done to save it legitimately,” he said. “It has to be shut down.”

A top official on Capitol Hill who asked not to be identified by name said there is “high double digit” support among Democrats for such a measure and “very significant bipartisan support for reforms or elimination.”

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) is promoting a bill that would continue FISA with some changes. But Rep. Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) said today that it does not include enough reforms and penalties.

Even if it is, it will be replaced with something equally repressive to the people and that replacement will be a resource to the deep state to destroy all threats to the deep state’s existence.

They will never give up that power. Just like Obamacare was going to be ended, this will suffer the same fate of being left in place. Oh, there will be theatrics, but in the end it will be renewed. There will also be promises that abuse will never happen again. We never get to hear the part were they whisper, “Until next time.”

The demoncRats are always the quickest to jump in and fix the problems
they created.

They demonstrate having no judgement at all, then seek to be in on the
judgement used to fix things.

They should be blocked from ANY participation in the fix.

GOOD.

Courts can easily seal their records or hearings if it’s an actual sensitive nature.

We don’t need secret courts that operate under the cover of law to a select few.

They will rebrand it. Call it something else. Increase the budget for new letterhead and China patterns.

"Liberty Quest Assurance Panel", or such.

No more fisa, the government has proven it can not be trusted with secret courts. The doj/fbi flat out lied to the fisa court and it should have been obvious to the judge. Add to that the doj/fbi and fisa judges are extreme progressive partisans. My God, the used the full capabilities of fisa warrants on an opposition POTUS campaign. Not once, but four or five times that we know of. That is a fact and we all know it. Yet there has been no one held accountable. No more fisa, period.

I’m surprised Barr is ok with reauthorization.

From the article: “Add to the mix that Trump Attorney General William Barr is pressing Congress to authorize an extension of the government’s authority just as it is without reforms.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During Obama’s reign, the FISA court broke their own rules and corrupt FBI Director and suborninates signed false documents, modified information to distort, used false reasons for FISA and flat failed/violated all standards used for legitimate use of FISA. There is no system that could withstand that kind of corruption.
During Obama’s reign - they spied on Trump. Then when Trump took office, his group followed the rules to legitimately obtain FISAs to spy on the coup plotters. “FISA WORKS BOTH WAYS.” So now deep staters want FISA gone real bad! Oh and people reading articles like this one may want it gone believing it’s the system and not the saturation of malevolent people in Obama’s regime behind the FISA scandal.
FISA should be cancelled and not replaced, at least not with anything that has the authority to infringe on the constitutional rights of American citizens. FedGov’s experiment with secret courts has proven what we always knew. Power corrupts.
Good!
Let it die. Put all those who plotted the coup out of work.
We have a federal judiciary. Don’t need secret courts and rubber stamp warrants.
Disband the FBI and the CIA until reforms are mandated and carried out under civilian supervision and we’ll be making progress.
Good, they need to close this thing down and indict the judges for all the crap they caused Trump. You’ll never convince me they weren’t in on the scam.
Didn’t the House just attach FISA renewal to Trump’s Coronavirus funding bill?
