The US and NATO allies have agreed to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan within 14 months if the details of a "comprehensive peace agreement" signed by the US and Taliban is upheld, BBC reported. US President Donald Trump said the US is "working to finally end America's longest war...

Or wait until we leave and then start up again.
What did we accomplish in 18 years, that we didn’t accomplish in one year, and could have then left?
Either that or they’ll just do like the North Vietnamese and wait the 14 months, take over with a totalitarian regime and celebrate when the media declares that our military was run out of town with their tails tucked between their legs, and get support from Bernie Sanders type Democrats.
We have to get out of Afghanistan, period. But this peace agreement will be honored as much as with the peace agreement that ended the Vietnam war was. Its all theater.
And everybody knows it.
Lots of American troops killed for no reason.

No doubt about it. The parallels between the Vietnam War and the Afghan War are eerie. But Bush II had one advantage LBJ didnt have. Bush had the lessons of Vietnam right before him. Bush should have known what not to do.
Bush repeated most of LBJs mistakes anyway. George W. Bush - the worst foreign policy president ever. Id even rank him below Wilson, as bad as Wilson was.

I don’t think anyone who hasn’t been to Afghanistan can fully appreciate what a shithole it is. I was naively in support of the war there until I WENT there. Then I realized it would take 100,000 troops there for 100 years to drag it past 1500 AD.
Came home in 2007 wishing for an immediate pull out. Wish we had just bombed them and promised to do it again.....
the comments here thus far are probably correct imho, in that there’s a very great chance the Taliban will just let USA pull back and then take over.
Is there anything PDJT can do in this treaty to prevent that?
If so, if he’s figured it out, this treaty will be very popular indeed.
If necessary, we have the means to stop everything via remote control.
There is no need to continue sacrificing our troops.
Was President Trump CIC during Vietnam?
“Next, the Taliban kills an American and the deal is off. Bets? This is a game to them. “
I read a few articles the Taliban is tired of fighting as well. We’ll see.
No, Nixon was CIC at the end but the Democrats controlled the House and the Senate and cut off all funds to assist the South Vietnamese and the press hated Nixon nearly as much as they hate Trump.

It’s about time to leave. (past actually).
We should make it clear “DONT MAKE US COME BACK, BECAUSE IF WE DO, WE WILL LEVEL THE WHOLE DAMN COUNTRY - WE WON”T SORT OUT THE GOOD FROM THE BAD NEXT TIME” We should let them know we won’t put boots on the ground next time, we will wage a 20 year bombing from sky and space campaign.
That way they will police themselves and not be a safe haven to launch attacks internationally.
So true...not to mention the “pentagon papers” and all the bs they pulled off back then. The propagandists were stronger...with no alt media pushback. Tricky Dick was more effective than Orange Man Bad.
Unlike before, we’re actually leaving.
If the Afghans want to maintain whatever degree of freedom they have, they’ll have to take their military training seriously now.
I hope they realize that the safety net is gone
(still ticked about 3 high school buddies who never made it back. R.I.P., Rick, Jim and John.)
Having read some books on this topic, it really seems like the only way to “settle” Afghanistan is to nuke it into oblivion. This stuff has been going on for centuries and most likely will for more.
I can't blame you, especially since Walter Cronkite and other Democrats made it so that their lives were in vain. I had a brother and a cousin who were both wounded but they did make it back.
