Supermarket shelves are starting to be stripped bare as Americans prepare for the spread of coronavirus by stockpiling on medications and non-perishable items across the country.
People have been panic buying items from stores ever since health authorities warned that Americans should start preparing for domestic acceleration of the virus, which has infected more than 80,000 people worldwide and killed nearly 3,000.
There are now 60 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the U.S. and the first case where the origin of the disease is unknown was confirmed on Wednesday.
Supplies have been flying off the shelves countrywide this week with people posting photos on social media showing the lack of products available in some stores and pharmacies.
A supermarket aisle in Virginia had been stripped of non-perishable items like pasta.
People were also sharing photos of their coronavirus stockpiles at home, including one man in Texas who said he bought a year's supply on non-perishable food in one night.
Jesse Colombo, who is a financial analyst in Dallas, tweeted a photo of his emergency food pile, including rice, Spam, freeze-dried foods and beans.
'I just bought an additional year's worth of food last night. Everyone needs to have a stockpile of food. I wouldn't even touch stocks (or even gold/silver) before having food in these times,' he tweeted, adding he was 'on edge' with everything that was happening in relation to coronavirus and the economy.
A woman in Michigan shared a photo of her 'grocery store basement' that was filled with shelves stocked full of items.
It comes as thousands of people were buying up face masks to protect themselves despite evidence that most people who aren't sick don't need to wear them.

I have the ability to make endless beer if needed. Hard part would be waiting for the first batch to be done. Got wine covered and moonshine. Know how. My blacksmithing ain’t to bad either.
..and base metals haven’t had a recent run up...
I think I might need to get back on my meds. Google scrubbed it but wasn’t there an article a month ago about how the Chinese wanted to interfere in the US election to stop Trump? Do you think they cooked this virus in a lab to do just that?
you’re set :)
Blacksmithing is very hard work though.
If a person had 100 bucks right now and had to feed a family of 4 for a month what would you buy?........Spam and canned veggies.
Let’s see, eat Spam or starve. Tough choice.
I was at the store this morning. Shelves still full. I went to Aldis the other day for TP and paper towels. The gal said....stocking up? Nope just my regular buy. I buy 10 12 packs of tp and 5 8 packs of paper towels at a time. Simply because I dont want to think about it for awhile. Lol
Cant buy surgical masks in PA. Not available for the most part on Amazon either.
Same here, although it's hidden away. Some are claiming that silver (colloidal) is good for warding off illness. If grab a handful of my silver eagles and fondle them, will I be immune to the virus? (I know, crazy talk, but still... )
I saw an informative post the other day. Take a Kleenex tissue, repeatedly fold it like an accordion, alternating the folds every half inch or so. Then wrap a rubber band on each end. Tie another pair of rubber bands to use as loops over your ears. Expand the accordion shape over your mouth and ears - instant face mask.
.
Gold prices have been dropping. I would have thought they might have gone up as people abandon some stocks. I’m waiting for the bottom before buying but I am watching carefully as i expect a violent rebound.
I don’t bother to clean the handle on a grocery cart. It cracks me up when I see people push their cart to the sanitizer station.
Every thing else in the srore is covered in germs. Don’t touch your face, wash your hands when you leave the store. Wash your face and hands when you get home. I even use a neti pot.
I would leave small kids at home if possible during flu season because they don’t keep their hands away from their faces.
I would like to wear gloves though because the skin on my fingers is cracked from psoriasis.
I make my own colloidal copper. Kills surface microbes (better than colloidal silver I’ve read), good for skin and joint issues, too. Distilled water, copper wire & three 9-volt batteries in series.
