U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is calling for a suspension of flights to Hawaii from South Korea and Japan amid growing concerns about the coronavirus. “It is irresponsible for our leaders to endanger the health and well-being of Hawaii’s people by continuing to allow travel from Japan and South Korea," Gabbard said, in a statement Wednesday. “I know there will be economic hardship, but it will pale in comparison to the cost in lives and economic damage to Hawaii and our country if we don’t suspend travel from these countries.”

It’s interesting that a dem like her is saying the right thing and not a peep out of even 1 of the republipukes (not even ones that are up for re-election). Makes me pissed.
In that part of the world it is possible a travel ban could be in place if the spread gets worse. Is there any way to get everyone on board to postpone the gathering? Personally I would be hesitant to risk it unless and until we find out more about this “bug.” For instance, why has it killed 30-something’s with no underlying conditions. A science type on twitter is saying the virus has a mutation or something with a binding method that is not found in SARS or MERS.

True. There are already many blaming him now. They say before all this he made many cuts to health directors and pulled funding(whatever their exact title I don’t remember) and call him out for lying that it’s under control when news just broke afterwards of the California case that is deemed community spread.

This Asian-originated virus must look much scarier from Hawaii which is far closes to the epicenter. Hawaii has much more air travel per capita than other states and much of it comes from their west. Their population is more concentrated than most other states. I also imaging that Hawaii would be the destination of choice for people in Asia fleeing the virus to ride it out. Given the limited resources and relatively small healthcare system they have, I would imagine that most Hawaiian’s share her concern.
