Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders lead the latest South Carolina poll of Democratic voters, garnering double-digit support that far outpaces the rest of the pack.
Support appears to have collapsed for climate activist and billionaire Tom Steyer, who had been polling in the low double digits after saturating the Palmetto State with campaign advertising. Steyer now polls at just 7%.
The numbers were released by Public Policy Polling and show Biden with a robust lead over Sanders with 36% to 21%.
PPPs newest poll of Democratic primary voters in South Carolina finds it looking like a two-person race, with only Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders reaching double digits in their support, Public Policy Polling Director Tom Jensen said.
The poll is good news for Biden, who had declared South Carolina's Feb. 29 primary a firewall for his campaign and will follow his second-place but distant finish behind Sanders in the Feb. 22 Nevada caucuses.
The key to Bidens success continues to be strong support from African Americans. He gets 50% to 21% for Sanders, with no one else polling above 6%, Jensen said.
The poll shows the remaining Democrats on the ballot in South Carolina trailing far behind Biden and Sanders.
The survey found Sen. Elizabeth Warren with 8% support, Pete Buttigieg with 7%, Tulsi Gabbard with 6%, and Amy Klobuchar with just 3%.
Sanders leads Biden with voters under 45, but Biden enjoys a 32-point lead among seniors with 40% to 8%.
The poll found Klobuchar with just 1% of the all-important African American vote.
Plenty could happen to change things in the next five days, but, for now, it looks like Bidens position might be shoring up a little bit in South Carolina, Jensen said.

Bloomberg isn’t on any ballot until Super Tuesday.
Warren will be gone soon. Perhaps 2/3 of her supporters go to the Bern.
The DNC will be damn careful how they steal it. They will take just enough votes to Bernie from winning. The only way he wins is with a huge gap on Super Tuesday in the 15-20 % range in the majority of states. Seems unlikely.
No way.
I don’t think so.
They began planning to run a socialist ticket back in 2016.
I believe that paperwork is in place and plans to qualify for the ballot are on the starting block and ready to run.
I don’t think they stay home.
I think that they push the Democrat nominee into third place in the general.
I’d rather have Biden than Sanders. There won’t be a bunch of rabid leftists lining up to vote for him.
With Burney’s previous heart problem, a sudden bout of Arkancide would draw no suspicion from the MSM.
PPP is not a reliable source. They are a virtual house organ of the DNC.
Bloomberg is not on any ballot until Super Tuesday.
I don’t see Warren dropping out for several reasons.
—Her womyn donors will allow her to stay in all the way.
—Once Klobo drops out she will be the remaining womyn in the race, so she can play the “glass ceiling” card.
—She _really_ hates Bloomberg, and wants a platform to attack him—this is personal with her because the NDAs are a dog whistle driving her crazy.
—She can continue to get lots of favorable media coverage and can pitch herself as the “compromise” candidate.
—She can use her delegates to try to get a VP slot (even though he is a terrible geographical fit for Bernie or Bloomberg).
If she drops out that helps Bernie—she does _not_ want to do that—because at that moment she becomes irrelevant—and she has an ego that just won’t quit.
Your right, Biden needs to win SC.
Keep those old tards at each others throats.
The pre-fix is in.
Not buying it.
Double Ditto’s!
The folks over at hillaryis44.org (NOT a Hillary website, it’s a Trump website from former Hillary supporters who hated Obozo then started hating on Hillary after Trump showed up) say this is a good thing.
The goal is for no one to have enough delegates at the end of this so it’ll go to a brokered convention. It’ll get stolen from Bernie and given to Biden or whoever, resulting in more hurt feelings.
PPP = Rat poll
could be pee-peeing on Bernie
Bernie’s not going 3rd party. He’ll try to sell his votes to the highest bidder. Whether the Bernie Bros play along this time remains to be seen.
The dynamics of this fight for the top will have dangerous effects due to the stress on these aged contenders. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) could already be a part of that fight at this stage of the game. What else will pop out of that box when they least expect it?
Id rather see Trump mop the floor with a mumbling Biden.
